Yes and no. It really depends on how narrowly you want to define "personnel issue." The system doesn't help them - we're playing so attacking that we leave them isolated and susceptible to getting beaten or making individual errors. To make this kind of system work we need our back line to be both settled and comprised of very good individual defenders. Right now, it's neither, so we're exposing and exacerbating that by playing the way we play. But if we can get Sakho healthy and add another classy CB in the summer, suspect a lot of our problems would go away.Originally posted by Sarb View Post3 points is all that matters and we got them. But really we need to look at the defence. It cannot be a personnel issue

I'd agree with that.

Agger used to be that but he looks ****ed.
A little harsh to pin the blame on the defence when they got no protection at all from the midfield. Henderson wasnt as busy in front of the defence as he can be (tired or tactical I dont know?) and Gerrard had one of those games that shows how new he is to the position. Constantly drifting towards the ball, or movng into space with little awareness of where the opposition are or where the runs are coming from. Shelvey had loads of space in the first half, Bony had space all game to take it on his chest, control it and turn with no-one in the midfield trying to take it off his toe, and Swansea had runners from midfield attacking our centre halves all game.
Contrast that with Chelsea where the defence look good partly because they've Matic, Ramires or whoever camped in front of them. It's a balance because our midfield going forward was great (and Allen was excellent when he came on) but not sure the balance is right for a game like today where the other team can keep the ball well.
We need Lucas back soon and we need to look at another specialist DM in the summer.

Yep, was always going to have a few of these before the end of the season as it's just not possible to have every game won by 30 minutes!Originally posted by wiw View Post4-3 for us is like a 1-0 for other teams
. we always score and always concede. im not sure we have a 0-0 in us. stressful to watch but damn its exciting
Though we actually put ourselves in the position to do that today.
Fair play to them though, look lightyears better than the **** served up under Laudrup.
