Would not matter because Suarez would score a brace in injury time.

Be a pressure greater than any England peno shoot-out I would imagine. Always looked on Dirk as the ice-cold one for penos, but some of Stevie's efforts this season have been quality, both technically, and for not letting the pressure get to him.

      His life-long dream......just 12 yds away......down the Kop end.

**** it ! The way this team has toyed with us this season......that is the way I want it to end.

However we would be playing Newcastle. So should be 17-0 up by that point
I was thinking about that last game yesterday and I think Newcastle at Anfield might be THE best fixture to have. They've packed it up for this season so will be cannon fodder for us.

GRAHAM POLL: Referee was wrong to let Carroll's blatant foul on Mignolet ride... but Taylor did get BOTH penalties spot on

Andy Carroll’s challenge on Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was described as “borderline assault” by my colleague Jamie Redknapp.

While I’m not sure I’d go that far, it was a clear foul by the West Ham striker.

The infringement was clearly seen by assistant referee Stuart Burt, who instantly told referee Anthony Taylor that it was a foul.

Unfortunately, Taylor insists that he has also seen the incident and tells Burt that he needs to be convinced that he was wrong. In my experience, this is when linesmen can often back down, and this looks to have happened here.

Supporters are entitled to ask why Taylor needed to run over to Burt. In this day and age, the officials are supposed to be ‘miked up’ to negate the need to run 50 metres! What also didn’t help was the fact that the big screen showed the incident. These replays do the ref no favours at all.

The conspiracy theorists out there will say that Taylor gave the goal to ‘make up’ for awarding Liverpool their first penalty, but I don’t believe that Taylor did that here. In fact, no referee in the top flight worth his salt would do that.

Both Liverpool’s penalties were correct decisions.

The first spot-kick was a blatant handball and James Tomkins was lucky only to be booked. He could easily have seen red because he denied Luis Suarez a clear goalscoring chance.

And, yes, West Ham keeper Adrian got a piece of the ball in the second half but he then cleaned out Jon Flanagan. Penalty all day long.

How could the same team have been so insipid just a few weeks ago against Untied when they were technically still fighting for survival, yet once they are safe they bust a gut against us? Then there was the changing rooms and bus etc, what’s that all about? Do they treat all teams like this? Bunch of c*nts.

In saying that, it was a good test though and will do our title chances no harm at all. We can’t win by 5 every week and the players had to dig deep and Rodgers had to make an important change to regain control of the game, so it was another important test passed.

I think fat sam absolutely hates us from the Benitez days and always does his best to screw us over. Plus hes BFFs with ferguson and wishes he was his boyfriend so theres that part too.

Poll could at least ask the question about how did Taylor arrive at the decision to award us the second peno, if he's so sure that no top flight ref can be influenced.
Whether you think it's a peno or not, I don't believe the ref saw it, as from the replays last night there was at least 2 players besides Flanagan and the keeper blocking the view he had. I don't know whether MOTD pulled out a better replay from the ref's perspective, but the one shown after-match looked damning.
If he's not sure about an incident, he cannot award it, and I don't believe the linesman had any say in the award..............in my view, he 'guessed' under the influence that he now knew he had ****ed up for us in the first half.

I mean, this is the opinion of a man who has no problem dishing out yellow cards with abandon......rules of the game be damned !

Calling Flanagan a diver etc is a massive cunt's trick. To me it's not as if he's overly annoyed about this result, but he's saying that to get into referees heads and influence the title race. I may be reading too much into it but then this is Sam Allardyce.

totally unfair by allardyce that - to say flanno was on the way down before touched...ridiculous

he clearly wasn't going down until 'tripped' by the keeper and flanno didn't even appeal.

WHU can feel a bit unlucky in that the keeper did 'touch' the ball.....but he didn't play the ball if that makes sense....flanno has got there first and knocked it past the keeper and it's only a bit of luck that his hand has made contact with the ball and it's not knocked it away from flanno.

in real time, at speed it looks a penalty...they should just accept it was tough decision to make and it could have gone either way.

it really frustrates me at times in football...i know referees make bad decisions, some howlers at times - but it's one thing making a decision in real time, at speed with a second or two to react....as opposed to watching replay after replay from every conceivable angle, slowed down to ultra slow more.

Did anyone ask Fat Sam what Tomkins was still doing on the pitch? Had Gerrard missed the penalty West Ham still had 11 men on the pitch. Advantage most definitely lost.

What Tomkins did was the biggest cheat of the day. Followed by Carroll's punch on Mignolet. Flanno didn't even cheat. Its a shame West Ham are not going to be relegated, not because I dislike the club but because Fat Sam needs to be unemployed from football permanently. Hopefully he still will be in the summer.

He didn't play him in a defensive midfield role though

I know he didn't. But none of us knew that when the team arrived out for the second half . You see Lucas come out and you assume he's going to be playing his usual role. It soon became apparent he wasn't and he was excellent at what he was asked to do.
