And had we wont the league, there may have been a feeling we could do it again the year after without many additions and people might have expected miracles from Brendog.

At least now, he should be backed, given cash, and we should get the deals over the line becuase with this guy in charge its amazing being a Liverpool fan again.

I think the cliche that you need winners in your team is true. Had we got a couple of players that had the guile and experience that they could come on and shape a game and see it out we would have won this.

And next year I expect Brendan to be a lot more pragmatic in his approach.

Great season, and you need the lows to appreciate the highs. 2nd!!!!
Despite falling asleep thinking of nothing but the dropped points, and waking up an hour earlier due to the memory of the dropped points, what you say above is true.

Over-achievement with a sub-par squad is fine but would we have learnt anything in the long run? Sometimes nearly succeeding and then falling at the last hurdle provides a lasting steel that can not be acquired otherwise.

Youngsters like Mig, Flanno, Allen, Sterling, Henderson and Sturridge will provide us with this vital steel next season. Man Utd, Chelsea, City can buy all the big players then want. None of them will be coming into the new season with experience and determination like our guys.

Last year he wasn't in the starting line up he then had some top performances but the last couple of games his performances have gone from bad to worse imo. Again today he lost his man and then Palace equalized. Unbelievable that we after this amazing 60-70 minutes have this feeling.

****ing defense. Looks like the last hope of the title disappeared today. It is unlikely but not impossible that City would draw against Villa or West Ham but they would never lose. Gutted once again. The luck we had earlier this season looks to be over. I don't blame this on Clattenburg but he was awful today.
totally agree here - that should have just been stopped at the halfway line. Booking taken. Regroup

Whilst Mrs Muddled was trying to find a silver lining for me, she told me it would be better to have lost it yesterday than to have lost it on the final day.

I don't know what's worst; pearls of wisdom or the stick I'm taking in the office from Manchester United, Spurs, Arsenal, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster Rover fans. Hell, the Weymouth fan is wading in.

Haha. Every single one of those - every supporter of those clubs - would ****ing love to be where we are. They'd all swap places. So **** off.

Haven't read the thread, tried to keep away from the tv but I have to say it I think Rodgers needs to take a lot of the blame here, 3-0 and our full backs where both in the Palace half, we didn't bother adjusting it at 3-1 and once the scored again we had our backs to the ropes. He's been fantastic this year but seriously naive yesterday if he thought goal difference was going to play apart, our management of games when leading has been pretty poor all season something I hope we improve on big time next year.

Johnson needs improving on and Lucas has no place in the side for me, back up to Gerrard but no chance in a more advanced role.

Lucas cant even back up Gerrard. He doesnt have the movement or the passing range. If we want to improve there is no room for sentimentality. I like Lucas but he is no longer the same player. He shouldnt play in any game bar the domestic cups next season

We need proper cover for Gerrard who can actually play the same role. Lucas cant

Positive from last night's game was that for 78 odd minutes we did everything right.

We definitely took the Chelsea defeat on the chin and learnt lessons from it. We were patient last night, probing, and waited for the right pass. There was a clear instruction to get the ball to Suarez as often as possible, which we should have done against Chelsea.

                Give the ball to Suarez

Maybe it was the presence of Sturridge but I liked our slight tweak in performance against a bus-parking side by playing long diaganol balls towards the full backs. Caught Bolasie out quite a few times.

At 3-0 up we had several chances to go on and make it 4, 5 or even 6.
If it was that easy to 're adjust' when it became 3-1 in the heat of a game Milan would have done it and we wouldn't have won the Champions League.

Went last night & sat in the home end, right next too their nutty support; gutted does not even come close. If ever there was a time to bring Agger on it was at 3-1 & close it out.

I thought we were outstanding for 75mins & had the press/managers not made it a topic of conversation, we would have had at least two stonewall penalties, but the ref bottled it.

Whats even more gutting was the fans around me would have taken a 3-0 beating on 75mins, as we should have been 7 up at that point; but then having to sit there & endure there celebrations was totally sickening.

Inexperiance & naivety cost dearly last night, but i tell you what if we keep this group togther next season, NO-ONE will fancy playing us.

Feel for the players today, because they have been immense & must feel totaly drained & defeated

BUT WHIST I AM SHELLSHOCKED, DOWN & DISHEARTENED TODAY, WE ARE MOST DEFINSTLEY ON AN UPWARDS CURVE

WE ARE LIVERPOOL TRA, la, la, la, la

                        Yep.

And could easily have been a cricket score (I mean 6-0 wouldn't have flattered us) before we conceded the first one and it would have been game over.
                        Are we winning?

100%. We were caught in the eye of a storm. A ****ing crazy storm. It happens. It's just not as easy as many are trying to make out.

That's the problem though isn't it. We've got loads of goals a few times this season and then conceded a few in the same game. We didn't get away with it last night. Every team misses chances, we have to do more to keep them out at the other end or we'll have more days like yesterday.

Yeah should have had a penalty from one of those.

Isn't the issue then in the players we look to bring in, we already have the fiery players (Gerrard, Suarez, Skrtel etc), don't we need to balance that somewhat with someone a little more unflappable (someone like a Big Sami or a Xabi Alonso), who can get people to calm down a little when needed.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
