I'd not be too hard on them - Benfica has a strong side that was old, physically larger and much more experienced. Liverpool now use the U21s as little more than a holding pen for those too old for the U18s (which is where the real Academy action is now) and not on loan or with the senior squad in a given week. Had they been able to play all the best then it would have been a different sort of match I'm sure.
