Looks like there is a policy shift at the Academy - the Mirror has an article about it - basically fewer but better is the new mantra
I have my doubts if its actually worth having a formal U21 squad at this point so stupidly pointless is the league and that fact there isn't even a cup to flesh out the thin schedule. The club had a 12 month plan in place to reduce numbers from the under-9’s all the way up to the under-21s and, according to the Liverpool Echo, the total number has already dropped from around 240 to under 200.
Liverpool Academy director Alex Inglethorpe told the Echo that the club are looking to focus on quality not quantity in a bid to live up to the ‘elite’ status of the academy.
‘The definition of Academy is that it should be a place of elite,’ Inglethorpe said.
‘It should be the case that when you look a player or their parents in the eye, you think there’s a genuine chance of them ending up playing for Liverpool.
‘Often it does the parents and the players a disservice if you are taking boys just to fill up numbers. That doesn’t seem right to me. Often those boys will go to other clubs, be happy and stand a far better opportunity themselves by playing regularly,’ he added.

you would have to start them at the base level, whatever that is, then let them work their way through.Originally posted by redmike65 View PostThere would be riots and rightly if that happened, it would be criminal if any sides lost their place to make room for Academy teams.removing all the weak links makes us stronger

It's on LFCTV at 7Originally posted by redmike65 View PostQuite - whatever that is. Even then there would still be anger as well resourced Academy sides prospered as the expense of teams like say Nantwich Town or Workington and so on up the pyramid.

I wish Mrs Venton was! I'm still in the dog house for accidentally kicking her out of bed in my sleep when I dreamt that a dog was biting my arse and wouldn't let go. She's out on the piss in umbrage.

U21s team to face Benfica: Firth, Whelan, Enrique, Brewitt, Maguire, Virtue, Dunn, Brannagan, Sinclair, O'Hanlon, Trickett-Smith.
Subs: Marsh, George, Smith, Hart, Madger Gomes, Polgar, Cleary.
Tough match this - Benfica are apparently handy.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad
