An article is circulating today which includes the Norwegian FA’s head of development Håkon Grøttland waxing lyrical about a player Liverpool signed last summer.

In August 2015 we won the race for Edvard Sandvik Tagseth, then 14, who will join up with the Academy properly in 2017, when he’s 16-years-old.

Norwegian paper Dagbladet have ran a feature on the left-footed playmaker, hyping the teenager to quite astonishing levels, based on comments by the man who’s overseen his development at international youth level.

        Here’s a translation:

“Grøttland believes that Sandvik Tagseth is more perfect than Ødegaard was the same age, a year before Real Madrid player debuted in La Liga and the national team.

“Norwegian FA’s head of development Håkon Grøttland claims Edvard has an extreme talent, and that he’s better than Martin Ødegaard was at the same age. “He has a lot of what Ødegaard had plus a little more. He’s almost frighteningly complete for such a young player.”

“U15 national team coach Gunnar Halle agrees with Grøttland that Edvard Sandvik Tagseth looks to be the best player to come through the Norwegian system in modern time. Edvard started working on technique at the age of four, in a barn turned into an indoor football pitch.”
Steven Gerrard has offered special praise to one player in particular after seeing his U18s team secure a 3-2 home win over Blackburn Rovers.

The Reds survived a tense finish on Saturday to hold on for victory in their first home game of the season, with a number of young starlets impressing in front of a large crowd.

Fans came out in their numbers to not only see Gerrard, but to also get an insight into the level of talent the Anfield legend is working with in his new job.

One standout performer was 16-year-old Edvard Tagseth, who, besides turning heads with an all-action display, scored his side’s opener and assited Glen McAuley for Liverpool’s third.

“I thought he was excellent all over the pitch,” Gerrard told Liverpoolfc.com.

“If you watch Edy closely, not only is he a wonderful passer, he has got unbelievable energy, he does all the dirty work, he gets on second balls, he runs back. He’s a quiet kid; we’re trying to get him to come out of his shell. He’s got an unbelievable future if he keeps working the way he does.”

The Norwegian completed his move to Liverpool at the beginning June, arriving with a glowing reputation and having already been hailed for his natural technical ability on the ball.

Read about him before we signed him, loads of hype about him that he was the new Odegaard etc. looked excellent against boys 2 years older than him tbh.

Forget Baby Keith - we have Baby Edvard

Norwegian football is really poor at the moment, but clubs and the national side. This means that every kid that can kick a ball is hyped (and often overhyped). So I`d take everything from the norwegian FA with a large pinch of salt (they are desperate to get any positives they can). There seems to be some good kids coming through, that are playing outside Norway. The league is so poor that it`s difficult to spot the real talents there, as so many kids looks like a talent there.

            Encouraging words from Gerrard though.

That first article is over a year old but as said, he looks a talent in that video. Just needs a few plates of scouse in him.

He does look a special talent doesn't he. Sell him to Barca now to save the inevitable tapping up of the lad in a few years.

Dhanda had another good game for the U23s there. His crossing has really come on, becoming a bit of a playmaker.

Great team. I worry about replacing Insua but hoping LFC Ladies brings her epic funding with her.

Was that his last incarnation? I kind of remember the username but it doesn't resonate with echoes of crazy Swedish craziness.
