Crazy thing is, 95/96 and 96/97 (maybe a bit of 98) we were a signing or two away from it. A keeper who didn't play video games all night and a midfield enforcer and I reckon we would have won the league. The talent in that squad was incredible.Originally posted by BigChief View PostYou must have been completely asleep during the 90s and 2000s then. The decades we were always 2 signings off from winning the league.

While I am disappointed at the way Markovic has been handled, I think loaning him to Turkey might have been motivated from both financial as well as footballing reasons. If we send him to lower level Serie A or La liga teams, we would be expected to pay a significant chunk of his wages. Atleast the big teams in Turkey are able to afford his wages.
This decision might have been out of Rodgers' hands.

So £25m - £4m = £16m???? Oh okay...... in reality we don't know the break down of any transfer fees, agents fees, sell on clauses etc.... but i think LFC paid £25m for him. (Maybe Southampton only saw £16m of that?)Originally posted by foresterbloke View PostIsn't it a myth that Lallana cost £25m? I thought Bournemouth got £4m from the transfer which makes it £16m in total?
In reality, you need to judge a manager on a number of factors (transfers being one of them) over a prolonged period of time (unless you are a club like Chelsea a few years ago that sacked a manager every season....regardless of how well they did).
So LFC had a ****in car crash last summer in the transfer market. But this summer I think the signings of Milner, Benteke, Clyne, Gomez are looking like they will more than balance the whole success. If emre can develops then that will tip it further..... and if Firmino is a success, then it will be hard to argue with the committee set up....
Liverpool fc was always a patient club. Their fans were always regarded as being intelligent fans.... its time to get behind the team....

Don't understand the fume over Markovic.
He didn't set the world alight last season and while some argue he wasn't played in his proper position that's part and parcel of football.
Firmino is clearly first choice right sided attacker, is Markovic going to accept being his back up?
More to the point will the press allow it or will every week be another circus of "£20 million flop Markovic etc..." at every press conference?
Ibe is suited to being an impact sub and starting maybe 1 game in 3 or 4 at the moment, Markovic seems the type to need to play regularly - he isn't going to get that.
This loan seems perfect to protect his value, he's still young, has 3 years left at the end of this season so 1 year playing regularly gives us breathing space and lets us potentially make a profit if we decide to sell. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

That's not how it works, Bournemouth were entitled to 25% of the total transfer fee, considering they only received £4m it means that the overall transfer fee should have been around £16m.Originally posted by frank the tank View PostSo £25m - £4m = £16m???? Assuming of course that Bournemouth were entitled to 25% of total fee as opposed to up to a certain amount, or that they didn't negotiate a reduced amount with Southampton.
Bottom line, is we're not always privy to the inner workings of transfer deals, but as much as we like to poke holes in the sports media, they are more on the ball than not with figures, and you can normally side with the predominantly reported amount.
I'd find 25m for an English international of Lallana's exposure very believable....certainly more than 16m in any case."I will make the boys feel your support"

We've already seen the best of Lallana, this is as good as he gets.Originally posted by spud_gun View Poststill a waste of money at £16m
I still feel that there's potential with Markovic,he's not going to be a world beater though. He started one game last season and did really well, then I seem to remember Brendan dropped him for the next and that was that.SakhoPotatoes

From his wikipedia page:Originally posted by Daffy Duck View PostThat's not how it works, Bournemouth were entitled to 25% of the total transfer fee, considering they only received £4m it means that the overall transfer fee should have been around £16m.
After long periods of negotiation Liverpool placed a reported £25 million bid which was later accepted by Southampton. Following England's return from the World Cup, Lallana signed for Liverpool, and was handed the number 20 shirt, the number he wore during his time at Southampton.
Bournemouth, Lallana's youth team, had originally included a 25% sell-on-clause in his contract when he joined Southampton, but only received £4 million after agreeing to a reduced fee with SouthamptonThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
