Shawcross is absolutely ****ing ****eOriginally posted by frank the tank View Posti think either Lovren or Sakho would both improve if they were playing next to a defensive leader. A Carragher for example. What is worrying about that is that Lovren was supposed to be that guy - that vocal, takes-charge, no messing about, highly organised and concentrated leader at the back. I think someone like Shawcross in place of Skrtel might work out - with either Lovren or Sakho....
The problem isnt an easy one to solve for me, there is a genuine lack of good centrehalves and those that are around are playing for top teams and are invariably unavailable - Chelsea and City have a number of decent ones (excluding Terry who is balls)
Other than that the only other centrehalf who has impressed me has been Stones at Everton and we wouldnt get him either

Looks to me we have 3 CB's and a keeper that dont communicate at all.
Usually your keeper is barking orders out telling defenders whats going on, Mongnolet just stands there watching and waiting most of the time.
Then you have Lovren and Sktrl....who only talk when they're yelling at either **** or our invisible midfield.
They're all the shambles at the moment. For me getting a commanding vocal keeper is paramount to stopping this defensive rot. Individually all our defenders can play. They just dont communicate during a game....and for me it comes down to our pissweak keeper."When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah

If Sakho had made as many clangers as Skrtel this season there would be people calling for his head, let alone made as many as Lovern.
Lovern gets the "He is new" excuse made for him, yet Skrtel is years at the club and every season comes with a share of mistakes from him that cost goals.
Then again Sakho runs "funny" and does not look elegant when passing so best get him out of the team.

Acting as devil's advocate, Skrtel does the simple things right like heading the ball clear and not allowing it to bounce first. And being able to head properly. Skrtel is also the only proven choice that can score from set pieces. Obviously prone to ridiculously expensive blunders as the other two but Rodgers has got Hobson's choice really.
Sakho tends to make basic mistakes that lead to loss of possession or a needless corner. All of which may come to nothing so don't get recorded in the stats (or people's memories). But those mistakes build up and give the opposition some sort of upper hand when they don't deserve to have one and suddenly we're looking under the cosh again for no reason.
Right now Lovren looks absolute sh*te. The worst of the lot. Unfortunately Skrtel looks the best of the lot. So why not play him with Sakho? 'Cos we've spent £20m on a defender we have to hope sorts his sh*t out soon. One tit for another.

Sakho hasn't had the opportunity to make as many errors as Lovren. When he has played though I haven't been impressed. He can ping a pass, but he's defensively suspect in all the same ways Lovren has been.
I'd happily play sakho in goal though. For all his defensive faults he's still probably a better keeper than Mignolet.

Who would you buy though???Originally posted by BigChief View PostWould love to sell all three in the summer, should raise enough money for two decent centre backs from outside of the costly premier league. Not sure how that would look on our balance sheet. Reduced amortisation but one less wages to pay?Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. Agree with that and I've said it in another thread a few months earlier something along those lines. The goalkeeper is the issue for me. Get a more commanding one, and the defence will sort itself out.Originally posted by Harv View PostLooks to me we have 3 CB's and a keeper that dont communicate at all.

Because I was responding to a specific point. But yeah if you want to go back to last season then Sakho was just dodge as Lovren is this season. Our defensive record with him in the side was terrible.Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostBut you're saying Sakho has the same flaws as Lovren. Why limit your assessment of him to his limited playing time this season only?
