What a pity this only applies to a previous transfer

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has found himself roped into the controversy surrounding Dinamo Zagreb president Zdravko Mamic. The Croatian police are investigating a number of transfers which they believe Mamic took a chunk of the fee on and then failed to pay tax. Lovren, who moved from Southampton to Liverpool last summer, will likely be asked to give evidence in the investigation along with others such as Luka Modric
Liverpool might have been able to send him back!

            He's back........

It meant Lovren played just one encounter for Liverpool in an Anfield encounter with Borussia Dortmund before being pitched into Barclays Premier League action.

A year on, the 26-year-old is with Brendan Rodgers' side as they prepare to kick off their friendly fixture list against the True Thai Premier League All Stars at the Rajamangala Stadium on Tuesday - and he's optimistic he'll reap the rewards of a full pre-season schedule

Lovren told Liverpoolfc.com: "For me it's important because I didn't have a pre-season here last year when I came to Liverpool. It's important for me to have a full one, give 100 per cent and be fit enough for the first game.

"I think it affected me last year. When you are with a team for a month in pre-season and you train with them, it's not the same as when you arrive in the last seven days [of pre-season] and then you play the next game. It was difficult for me, but this year is good for me and we're doing everything well here.

            "When I have a good pre-season, I feel I will have a good season. I can't wait to start."

Lovren has been joined on Liverpool's summer tour of Thailand, Australia and Malaysia by several new faces.

The likes of James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, Nathaniel Clyne and Divock Origi are set to play a part against the Thai All Stars.

Lovren feels the additions to the squad are already having a positive impact.

"They're really good," he said. "It feels like they've already been with us for a couple of years. It's a great pleasure to play with them because they're quality signings.

"I would describe Nathaniel [Clyne] as a sports car - he's quick, strong and an intelligent guy. I played with him at Southampton and I have only positive words about him. He's a great signing for us and I can't wait to see him playing on the pitch.

"Origi is also a great signing for us. He's a strong guy, massive, quick and it's great to have him here, like the other lads. They're making everyone be better on the pitch."
"I will make the boys feel your support"

I have a feeling he will have a good season. I hope Sakho starts ahead of him though and I can't see Skrtel being dropped to begin with, so he may have to bide his time.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Hmmm well, he started off playing better than he continued so I'm not sure his words make sense.

I do genuinely worry about our central defenders and keeper. They have to work as a unit and with just one poor performer the whole thing goes to ****. Out of Mignolet, skrtel, sakho and lovren, the possibility of mistakes and/or bad performance is high.

That applies to alot of our players from last year
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Do we just keep the whole 'get a good preseason behind them' for players we like ?

He's great, any errors he made were the fault of Glen, Can, Lucas, Gerrard, Mignolet, Rodgers, the midfield etc.

The "having a good pre season" is a fair point though which is why our ****ing about in the strikers buying department is annoying.

He's ****ing ****e though and I hope he never plays bar for rotation purposes in the cups.

Lovren: Not just me at Anfield that was bad

Dejan Lovren has admitted he did not play well in his debut season at Liverpool but says he was unfairly singled out for the team's poor form.

Liverpool paid £20million to sign Lovren from Southampton last summer, but the Croatian failed to reproduce the sort of form that had earned him the move to Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers' side finished sixth, having finished second the year before, but while Lovren accepts he was not at his best, he believes he received an unfair proportion of blame for the Reds' struggles.

"It has been tough," Lovren told the Liverpool Echo. "I think it was a tough year for everyone at the club and the fans. I wasn't quiet last season, I just wanted to concentrate on myself

"I knew what was happening with how I was playing was not right and I didn't want to speak about it. At Southampton it was different. There was a good atmosphere and I was happy.

"If I am not playing well, I cannot be happy. I didn't pretend. But it is not Dejan Lovren-Liverpool, you know? I cannot defend all alone. It is 11 players. When we are good, everyone is good.

"When we are bad, everyone is bad, not just me. I think we need to look like this, not just put the pressure on me or point the finger. I don't agree with this.

"I know what the papers were writing about me. I don't want to have to listen to this again. We want to move on as a team. When we are better, it is because we will be doing all together good."

Liverpool have strengthened heavily over the summer, with Kolo Toure claiming Christian Benteke will complete a side that could be unbeatable, and Lovren is also confident of a better season.

"We knew that at the end of the season we should have done better," he said. "Now we need to forget it and look forward. We cannot look back. I know this season will definitely be better.

"I hope this year we will have a better start. The signs are promising at the minute and we have made great signings.

"James has been brilliant, Divock has been amazing and Danny is quite quick. I hope that I will have a good season as well.

"It is better that you have competition than not. We are all fighting for our places - nobody can be 100% certain for his place. I think it is a good thing for the club that we have quality defenders."
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins
