We do/did have other issues, and if you are highlighting just the Stoke game for me that was the managers fault, persevering with Can at right back whilst we shipped 5 goals in 45 minutes. Fundamentally the problems lie or lay with our manager, but I've decided to stop posting negatively about him for now.

However Lovren isn't of the quality we require, a point I am sure he will back up if he gets any game time next season.
Sorry, didn't mean to be patronising even if it did sound like it.

Lovren has time to improve and if he doesn't, then we'll get rid. I'm far from impressed with either of Skrtel and Sakho as well. We need an organizer at the back and it's something that still hasn't been addressed.
    Are we winning?

That I agree with. Yeah, it's a worry. Sorting the defence is Brendan's Achilles heel. Every year we ship tons of goals, every summer we focus on fixing the attack. I'm not convinced by the 3 of them either, it's certainly a position that someone needs to make their own.

From what I've seen of the preseason games it would seem Lovren is still rubbish.

He had Fonte next to him and Schneirdelin and Wanyama in front of him and he looked good.

But he didn't. Carra did that piece where he went back and re-analysed his last season with Southampton and he was making the same errors, he was just being coverred.

Nothing has changed with Lovren's game, everybody is just seeing alot more of him... as he's on TV & his performances are getting more exposure.

                  Not convicted of that

                  He's terrible

Carragher has it bang on the button, positionally he's woeful

He doesn't read the game and doesn't have the skills to get himself out of trouble often enough. I dispair that Rodgers hasn't ditched him. He's utter dross.

Should we have Carra assist with our scouting, get him to double check any potential signings as it seems rodgers and the committee have jumped in for lovren (and others) without doing enough analysis. ..

or is it just a case of it being easy to be an expert after the signing!
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Carra was for the signing but wrong when he went back and looked. He admits it in that vid.

He missed it at the time just as you missed the point.

If he's leaving spaces between CB and full-back, maybe he should play central in the back 3? Let the other two do the positional work. Might even be the making of him...

I think it is another example of not looking at the system the player was playing in and how that made him effective at his previous club. The system played at Southampton and the system we played last season were completely different and left Lovren exposed and looking awful. I think it is a problem with many of the signings we made last summer.

I have said before I think that the difference between a top class defender and an average PL defender comes down decision making and how many mistakes you make. Lovren makes so many mistakes that he is a long way from the player we need based on last seasons form.

Looking at our (experienced) centre backs at present Skrtel, Sakho, Lovren and Toure should be picked in that order. I know people have some questions over Skrtel and Sakho, but they are first choice because other two are liabilities. I am really hoping one or more of the youngsters step up this season so that we can keep Lovren and Toure out of the side

I said last season that the role for him was probably in the centre of 3 CBs, but that was Skrtel's role. This season I don't see us playing a back 3...

Watching him predictably sky it over in the last few minutes of the semi final last year was probably the most depressing moment i've witnessed inside a football ground. Don't think i've forgiven him yet. That said I think he could play better and be a bit more relaxed when the midfield and attack in front of him are functioning better. He's still a bit turd though and Sakho should walk into the team ahead of him.
