He's been here through the entirity of the Klopp era and played a big part in the early days. He turned round his form from those catastrophic moments he had with Brendan.

Of course he has made some mistakes. But he gets hammered for them because people hark back to those days under Brendan. He was superb in the run of games he played earlier in the season.

If he had been anywhere near Gomez and VVD banging into each other on Weds or Gomez sticking out a leg to let Pulisic fly past, or VVD getting caught in posession v Arsenal he'd have been relentlessly hammered on here.

I'm sure there will be some sarcastic responses here. Or some posts to point out why I am wrong. But for me he deserves respect. He has proven himself to be a champion. Played in a WC Final and played a part in all of our triumphs.

I feel nothing at his passing. He seems a bit of a prick all round. It's not 100% necessary but I like to actually like as many of our players as possible.

I'll give you that his views on SM seem... confused.



He's Croatian though, he reminds me of a mate of mine who has the same personality - so I quite like him.

As a player I think he is all right but we have moved in from him - decent from time to time but had a calamity every now and then which would cost us. Added to that he is on a significant amount of money which for a fourth choice CB and finally he is quite injury prone.

I would rather a younger player be fourth choice and at least they will learn from mistakes.

But

He got the club, was involved in a run to the champions league final, scored that goal and seemed a well like member of the squad. It is a win win all round - decent fee for a 31 year old, free up wages, he will be first choice and play at a fairly high level and he goes out a champion.

I'll never forget that performance against Spurs under Klopp but as Buzzo points out, he's very much part of our success. I'll be delighted to get 10m for him though. Hopefully we get someone like Klavan who's reliable to slot in when Gomez or Matip get injured.

Been linked to Ben White although Brighton have said not for sale. Maybe a short term stop gap on a free like Vertonghen CB/LB cover - we need another as Matip is made of glass and Joe needs competition as he’s been ropey since the restart

I'll have to grudgingly concur with the more charitable assessments of Lovren's time with us. He played his part and deserves his medals. He's just a mad Croatian. Surely I can forgive that.

I'll stick with what I've said all along. Fantastically talented defender but makes daft decisisions when he doesn't have a steady hand on his shoulder.

Skrtl made him look worse than he is, VVD makes him look better than he is, but reckon he'll have a great career elsewhere.

Good luck to him. Unless he posts more CV conspiracy theories then he can get fcked.

Good luck to Dejan. Mo and a lot of the lads will miss him. He is / was, as Lallana, one of the unsung heroes of that Klopp era, which helped keep unity behind the scenes.
