He didn't really have a choice with Manquillo though, due to fitness concerns with other FB's.

Think people will be very disappointed if they expect Johnson to be dropped for City.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

This is a bank holiday too isn't it...might have to book the Tuesday off just in case.

And will probably be even more disappointed by his performance if he plays

          Haha, no doubt you're right.

Ideally I'd like to get Sakho back into the team but that would mean to many changes so I think we should go with:

            Manquillo-Skrtel-Lovren-Moreno
I fully see the point of view. But having an almost entirely new beck 4 against City worries me - for that reason alone I think Johnson needs to stay in the team. And I think he will, either at left back or right back.

Much as I'm hopeful that Markovic will be tearing it up for us this season, I think the MC game is probably a bit soon even if he's fit.

Can't see him getting in the team too often, especially when Lallana is fit. Who's place would he take? He'll be an option from the bench this season and a starter in cup games/some league games I reckon.

Wasn't Smith thrown in in the City game last season and looked woefully out of his depth? Or was in chelsea?

He came on against Chelsea as a sub iirc.

Christ, we're going to hear that "Liverpool are toothless without Suarez" joke from opposition fans every single game aren't we? I reckon 8-0 to us, just to kill that nonsense dead.

In reality, I'd take a point here, and I'm not particularly convinced we'll even manage that.

Very happy with the start time for us ex-pat Scousers. Couldn't convince myself that drinking a beer at 8.30am on a Sunday was a good idea, but I have no such qualms about Monday afternoons.

Think it depends a bit on our formation but I can see him starting ahead of Coutinho in a 433 if BR wants a bit more pace and energy and a bit less guile for some fixtures.

Main concern is we get overrun in midfield. We lacked control and a physical presence (in midfield) against Southampton. I wouldn't start Sterling and Coutinho - would rather...

I think it will be the same as Southampton with 2 possible exceptions.

Can should start in place of Lucas but I think Brendan will go with Allen.

Moreno should start in place of Glo Jo because the later stunk on the weekend & it's time to see what our No 1 target is all about. There's no way that Glen should be moved to the right to accommodate Moreno as young Manquillo did well & deserves to retain his place. I would give him a rest in a few weeks time though as he is only a young lad without a whole lot of game time in the top tier.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I'm in line with those that doubt we will get much from this game. City started decently, and are clear favorites at home. We still have som adjustment to make, and I'd settle for one point easily. I however don't think we will get that.

On the lineup I reckon as the frist game except Lucas will be replaced by Allen or Can, and maybe Johnson will be replaced by Moreno. I hope so, as he was a weak link for sure. Maybe even do Flannagan again as we need a defensive sound player for the game, and it might be worth sacrificing a bit going forward.

It's a tough one to call this early in the season to be honest, could go either way.
