Welcome to the Champions League Liverpool. A different back 4 every game & they can't handle it. Enrique clearly not 100% yet after a very long lay off and was drowning today. But we can't play Moreno every game & Enrique needs games to get the fitness back.

It's simple organisation letting us down. The amount of second balls we lose is alarming but it's because none of them are taking responsibility or anticipating what the other is doing. At least today we sent out a waring in that we can actually still destroy teams on the break. Teams may start getting wary again.
    Forwards.......

Moreno & Manq are not ready to play every game. Rodgers is doing it right, he just needs more help from those he's placing trust in.

removing all the weak links makes us stronger

And it's not just the defence. The whole team is playing slow and deliberate. They allow teams to press us high. We need to up the tempo and get back to pressing as a team. That's not here this season and the defence is under too much pressure. Only the best defensive units will cope with such pressure, and no one will claim we are that.

Johnson won't be here next season so we need to get his replacement up to speed this season. Enrique should never get onto the pitch and we won't get any defensive solidity if we keep changing players back there. Pick 4 and stick with them, for the league anyway.

              Manquillo - Skrtel - Sahko - Moreno

Would be my first choice back four based on what we have, but yknow, Rodgers doesn't like Sahko and I'm thinking Johnson will stay in the team.

We're lucky Moreno looks good, we've got 1 out the 4 sorted.
The times they are a changin'.

Johnson may not be, but I'm sure Flanno will, him & Manquillo will be fine. But until we get Jon back, Glen will do & in fairness I'm not sure he played too poorly today.

It's been said that the problem is 'systemic' and I agree. However, I will go a step further and say I don't think Rodgers has a fecking clue how to sort us out defensively. There has been no signs whatsoever of us improving our defensive game under him no matter what team he's picked over the past 2 years. The shape just isn't there and we still don't track runners. It's getting ridiculous. You can all talk about Allen, Can etc being missed but nothing will change as Rodgers is a big part of the problem. I don't see him bringing in anyone to help him either.

Definitely a managerial element to it. His record so far in the Premier league with us and Swansea is 51, 43, 51. On course to concede 57 this season! The season we conceded 43 United did too and still won the league thanks to the 86 they scored and Mancini being ****e.

Our defensive problems aren't solely down to the back four. Its down to many factors including the lack of a specialist defensive midfield player, the fact that our fullbacks are pushed high up the pitch and are expected to get to the byline, our entire philosophy is based around attacking play and triangular movements which leave us exposed as soon as we lose the ball, each player taking his reference from the position of the ball at any time, the lack of midfield cover for the back four which isn't down to one defensive midfield player.

Its easy to blame the defence but its not solely down to the back four.

Yeh agree with that and Can looked a bit lost today too IMO. Hasn't been a shield in front on back line for quite some time now.

Probably not since the days of Rafael benitez. I'm not including Hodgson because his whole team was a defensive shield and that's no way to play.
