I think you're right. I'm sure they're better than they're showing, but I think between our CBs and keeper there's a lot of collective uncertainty which has led to a lot of individual errors over the last 18 months.Originally posted by Maxiedge View PostOur defenders are better than what they are showing but if they're going into games believing that they are a 'dodgy defence', then their game becomes tense and anxious. So much of defending comes from composure, a clear mind and self-belief.
Wouldn't be upset to see them all leave next summer, all bar Manquillo, Moreno and Flanagan.

Pick that back 4 and stick with it. I know Lovren has been dog**** but I've seen enough of Skrtel now to know what he's like and Toure is an absolute clown
I don't think it matters who you play. They are all making the same mistakes. I tell you it's the coaching that's the problem.

I am not sure you can coach the problems they have out of themOriginally posted by topscorer View PostI don't think it matters who you play. They are all making the same mistakes. I tell you it's the coaching that's the problem.
Lets face it Skrtel has been under the tutelage of Rafa who is excellent at setting up a defence and he didnt manage to iron out his mistakes even back then
To me its as much about the right personnel as the right coaching
To effectively run a defensive unit you have to have players capable of organising people into position, that player himself has to be positionally sound himself
We dont have anyone capable of that at the moment imoBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I agree with this I think it's a combination of poor decision making on the pitch from the centre backs in particular coupled with the way we're trying to set up in defence I mean Lovren and Skrtel look permanently in a state of panic if the ball is anyway near our final 3rd just no composure at all and how on earth you instil that into them I've no idea.Originally posted by Lecter View PostI am not sure you can coach the problems they have out of them

I agree. As a team we are not 'built from the back' and it shows. Brendan Rodgers wants his teams to keep the ball and his famous 'defend with the ball' line.Originally posted by topscorer View PostI don't think it matters who you play. His way of defending is keeping the ball from the opposition but it hasn't worked for us. We look very shaky whenever the ball is in our box. I don't think it is a personnel issue, I think its a tactical / structural or coaching one. call it whatever you want but we are defensively very naive.
But I still think once Joe Allen and Daniel strurridge are back fully fit we will see a different team offensively which in turn means teams will think twice before committing men against us because of our threat going forward on the counter.

No leaders amongst keeper and two centre-backs at the moment and it shows.
Lovren was a bit of a leader before joining us, so hopefully it'll come once he settles. Sakho has been a captain so again might develop it over time if he ever feels settled. Skrtel never has been and never will be a leader. Toure is a leader, but unfortunately is the most error prone of the four of them...

Skrtel has never been lambasted on Est so much as he has this season. As an individual maybe he wasn't better under Rafa but as an important part of the defensive unit we had a solid defense with him.
Personally I think your point re-enforces mine.
