Not really as you are suggesting that the problem can be resolved through coachingOriginally posted by topscorer View PostSkrtel has never been lambasted on Est so much as he has this season. As an individual maybe he wasn't better under Rafa but as an important part of the defensive unit we had a solid defense with him.
Personally I think your point re-enforces mine.
I am saying we need new personnel
Unless we have someone in Skrtels ear telling him what to do and where to go throughout the game no amount of coaching will help himBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

The biggest problem lies with the attack. BR insists on persisting with the style of last year in the absence of the personnel to do so. Attack was our best form of defence. In it's absence, it's magnified the lack of quality in midfield who can't defend, which exposes the defence further.Originally posted by Assassin View PostThe biggest problem with our defence lies with our midfield.
The midfield players give the ball away far to easily and are way out of position exposing the defence.
IMO our midfield has been shocking so far this season
Not that that means we should be useless at defending set pieces.Substance > Style

You cant blame midfielders for defenders not marking off set pieces, not being goalside of players in general and not being close enough to their fellow centrehalvesOriginally posted by Assassin View PostThe biggest problem with our defence lies with our midfield.

The pressure from midfield or lack thereof is an issue but defensively as a back four unit we are so amateurish its unrealBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

We are only missing the 'goalkeeper' corner
I would agree with everyone, the balance throughout the whole team just isn't there yet. Whether or not we have the personnel in the current squad to sort it out remains to be seen. If we can keep in touch until January, maybe we can bring some players in to change that.

HaOriginally posted by Muddled View PostSo we have Lecter in the 'defence' corner, Assassin in the 'midfield' corner and ronanm in the 'attack' corner. All we need now is JohnDoe in the 'goalkeeper' corner and we've got ourselves a ruckus. I mean a debate.
I think we have varying problems all over the pitch
I dont think the current system works for us we are better with 2 up top
We dont have enough pressure on the ball high up the pitch which imo is again symptomatic of the system change
Then we have a back four making schoolboy errors every weekBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I think this a multifaceted problem which can't be solved with one solution.
We need to address the defenders, through coaching and recruiting and we also need to alter our midfield to offer more protection to the defence.
Then we need another GK who is commanding and capable of shouting directions and a direct pacy striker or Sturridge to return to give the team better shape and a quick outlet.
So, to sum up, IMO you are all right.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

We can debate this forever, we know they're both crap and hopefully Rodgers has identified this.
The important thing is, who is out there that is obtainable and will do a decent job?

I'm not playing the blame game. I see there is an issue at the back. However, the midfield, IMO are the root cause of all the pressure on the back four. Whether it is through open play or set pieces. In all the years I have been watching Us play. I have never ever seen a midfield give away the ball/possession so much. This is now going to spark a mini rant. Every ****ing game I watch this season I am reduced to shouting and screaming repeatably "Stop giving the ****ing ball away".......Originally posted by Lecter View PostYou cant blame midfielders for defenders not marking off set pieces, not being goalside of players in general and not being close enough to their fellow centrehalves

This loss of control either, one, exposes the back four, two, causes the midfielders to make rash tackles giving the ball away, or three, both midfielders and defenders scrambling and giving numerous corners away, or four/and four the ball ending up in the net.
Sort the midfield out and the defence will follow.....

All good points. The midfield, and even the attackers are to blame. We're not closing down well enough from the front this season either. It's all putting extra pressure on a ****e defence.Originally posted by Assassin View PostI'm not playing the blame game. I see there is an issue at the back. Anyone know how we're getting on in terms of goals conceded so far compared to this point last season?
