The only difference having Lambert on made was fresh legs. It didn't cause any change in approach, nor would replacing Mario with a different player have resulted in any tangible improvement. It's a swerving high ball. Most goalkeeping coaches would say that using the top hand is better in that situation, regardless of whether they coach its routine use for high shots or not.

I can't believe anyone wants to blame that goal on Mignolet!

I don't think you can say you're not blaming him if you say he should've gone with a different hand and that someone decent would have saved it

Both of those points are wrong to my mind, I've argued the first but the second I'm stunned to have to do so at all tbh!

We showed plenty of threat today, but I think I'd maybe say without Sturridge we lack the same sting in our tail. Hopefully that'll change as the players learn about each other. Obv I wouldn't be averse to Benzema in January like

bt sport showed the reverse angle of jagielka's shot and he watches it all the way but it does swerve away. if he goes with his left which is the natural hand for that side, he;s able to reach higher and across more. if he goes with his right his chances of saving it as it moves away diminish.

but is simon mignolet to blame for our early season troubles. no he isnt. there are some teething problems in the team due to a lot of new players (3 of the back 4 are new).

suarez has left, sturridge is injured so its shouldnt be a shock that we're conceding goals and cant score too many either.

We've won 2 games out of 6 in the league and performed well in only one of those games, it's hardly knee jerking to be concerned/frustrated/angry about how things are going.

It was to be expected that we'd struggle a bit. Lots of new players in and a period of transition to go through.

last season was exceptional but did we over achieve with the resources we had ? probably yes

Definite improvement defensively. I actually quite liked our shape this game with Henderson dropping deep too along with Gerrard.

Balotelli's got to do better with his chances but I thought he did ok today overall.

When we get into good attacking positions, there's still a bit of confusion about what positions to take up but I think it will improve in the next 3 games. Lallana, Markovic and Balotelli...that's 3 out of the front 4 that are new signings.

That's just so wrong, and it's common sense as to why.

You can't reach higher with the bottom hand. You reach higher with the top hand. Cos it's on top innit

You can reach wider with the bottom hand, but you lose to ability to adjust late to a swerving ball. For instance see this. So even if he wasn't doing it out of routine choice to take high shots with the top hand, and was instead deciding from the moment the ball was struck which hand to use, he chose correctly, and his "chances of saving it as it moves away" were much higher than had he used his other hand.
