We never really looked a threat throughout the game and it did seem that Real were holding back a gear imo. I think we had 5 shots compared to their 30+. It is so disheartening that a club such as ours has to be content with merely avoiding getting a hiding.

All that said, defensively that was by far our best display of the season. So that's a positive to take from tonight. We had energy in our midfield pressing and better positional play from our CBs. Borini offered good mobility up front and this would be enhanced when Sturridge returns.

The team for the Chelsea game will be interesting. Rodgers preaches the idea of a meritocracy, but it'd be no shock to see Lovren, Gerrard and Johnson (maybe even Balotelli) walk straight back into the starting 11.

He seems to bounce from side to side all the time.

He has class so no worries long term but the sooner he gets his mojo back the better, I want the raheem at norwich, grabbing the game and looking dangerous.

Thought we played well. Toure and keeper excellent. Well done Rodgers. Now to get revenge on Chelsea and kick on.
Sterling has gone backwards since being publicly hung out to dry by that jowly faced douche nozzle Hodgson.

            Apart from you obviously.

Best performance in ages. Still not happy with the weakened line up, but TBF I think they did very very well. Showed up the established favourites.

No I'm not, they didn't help don't get me wrong but for me he was our worst player, I just don't know what he offered and not for the first time this season. Can is streets ahead of him in the pecking order for me

After the last 3 or 4 outings our supposed stars didn't deserve to get a game. I hope Rodgers sticks with some of these players and bins the Lovrens and Johnsons of this world for good. Sterling and Gerrard wouldn't harm either from a stint on the bench

I thought this was one of Markovic's best games, at least he looked like he wanted to the ball and had a few runs. He wasn't brilliant, but he showed something which is a lot more than we can say about a lot of his previous performances.

When Can gets the ball and starts running with it, he looks like he could be Vieira like driving us on, but then a few seconds later he seems to look rather leggy and lethargic in possession. Hopefully it's the recent injury and not him overall, as he has shown glimpses that he could be pretty decent. He covered a lot of ground today and which is great as it's someone who can take some of the workload away from, or replace Henderson if necessary.

Markovic was good but not quite as quick as I thought he would be. Imagine if it was Sterling running at Varane in the first half, reckon he would have been past him. Still great for Lazar's confidence and hopefully he can kick on from here.

I thought he did alright. The problem for me was that Markovic couldn't provide that quality outlet and also Manquillo kept on getting caught out by Marcelo down his wing. Apart from that, I though we did really well tonight all things considered. Much better than we were against Newcastle.

I think if we arent careful sterling will e finished by his mid-20s...

Also....it would be nice to be in the position where we have a genuine threat from the bench......a ****er who can put the ****s up the opposition.....it should improve with sturridge back but **** knows we spent enough to have that...

I couldn't care less really about Sterling getting burned out.

He is one of our most effective players and I would not let his long term development stop him being selected. It's not as if he will be here when he is 25 anyway. Use him and abuse him.
