For me the main issue now is the shape of the team.....the midfield is too unbalanced and doesnt protect the defense properly. Lucas should start in place of gerrard, with henderson and Can in front of him....gerrard should then play at the top of midfield....and be rotated with coutinho. He could also sometimes play instead of Can or Henderson.....

Toure should have started yesterday as well. Lovren isnt a hyypia or carragher who has just had a bad patch - he has not shown any potential, any quality at all. (Whats more frustrating is that southampton have the best defense in the league this year).....

I dont actually think anything will change though....not unless Rodgers hand is forced with something like an injury to gerrard...

When sturridge is back we will score more goals.....but that wont mask the terrible defense we have.....and for me i cant see BR as our manager next season unless he changes that urgently. His persistance with gerrard and johnson, his self-confidence in thinking and wanting Lovren to be our defensive leader (remember how he bigged him up as the new leader at the back when he signed......while shipping agger out the door).....these are the things that will cost brendan his job.

At what point is it OK to say to Mr. Liverpool that he is going to be "rested" in the league. Giggs, Scholes and Lampard (at Chelsea) were phased out and it was OK, why is that not OK with Gerrard, and Carra for that matter, I remember him coming out with a line that if he wasn't a starter he'd rather retire cause it'd be so embarrassing.

I agree he is one of our best ever....and i actually think he possibly has another 3 seasons left if used correctly.... but just this season if used as he is now. Fergusons use of giggs and scholes is the benchmark....they still were very good squad players, still played in some big games and were sucessful....

I agree that lucas playing one good game isnt reason to pin him as our saviour either.....imo we should have bought a DM in the summer.

But right now, lucas is our best option there....

I'll just quote this, my sentiments exactly. Just because I want our only defensive midfielder to play the defensive midfield position, doesn't mean I think he's our saviour.

Never said that or insinuated otherwise and never seen anyone else do it either. The way the team is setup and Gerrards role in that setup is doing us too much damage.

Gerrards best spell yesterday was when we were chasing the game towards the end.....he went 20 yards further forward....

I agree we have a fuller squad now. Our transfer policy from here should be to add only 1 or 2 too drawer 'A' Listers to the squad. I'd start with a striker as top priority for Jan. I'd leave DM & CB till next summer as i'd try Lucas as DM & use Gerrard in front or as tip of the diamond. I'd use our current CB's & hope we get a decent level of understanding & consistency going.
If this all works out, then in the Summer I'd add a new DM as Lucas is not as mobile or beasty as we need. Gerrard can be rotated around in the 3 other MF positions. Lucas can be back up to new DM/play in cup games. A new CB to really make a difference. So that's 1 A Lister in Jan & 2 A listers in the Summer. Sounds like a decent squad to me!

...that's assuming we achieve top 4 and Rodgers keeps control of the reins. If he's not, none of the above will be on the table - new manager will bring in his own ideas,players and formations

We do have a fuller squad now. But I actually think that Rodgers thought that lallana was an "A-lister". I think that he thought that Lovren was an "A-lister"...... So in reality when he goes back to FSG and asks for more though to get an A-lister defender (because Lovren is ****e) and asks for another 30m for a midfielder (but lallana has barely played) then he will have a big problem and lack of credibility in FSGs eyes

T'is also true! We do not have an endless pot of money & need to stick to FFP rules along the way! Lets hope we qualify in top 4 so at least have a bargaining option with FSG!

i just think we need to stick with the manager and get behind the team till the end of the season. I dont think they will give him big money in jan - maybe a loan deal but not sure who would add value and be available in jan.

I think things will get much better with sturridge back. I also think that he will form a good partnership with balotelli. But brendan will be judged on the whole season. Top 4 would be consolidation and a fantastic result from where we are right now.....
