The manager - where are you at?

In our case the checks and balances appear to be not up to much, no system is infallible. We don't even know who does the checking and what makes them qualified to say yay or nay to a managers prefered choices. If your going to hire or fire a manager based on the results he gets then you have to back him to sign who he wants to get those results. I don't rate his ability in that area either but thats how it has to be unless you're Real Madrid and you know every player your president signs is a sure fire hit. Give him the players he wants, otherwise get someone who doesn't want to sign players the committee don't think are good enough, like a continental manager who knows he doesn't sign the players, he's just the coach, less chance of him getting in a huff about it then.Originally posted by Lecter View PostI dont want him having full control, we have seen that under Roy and Kenny
I prefer there to be checks and balances
He can try and justify whatever he wants I dont give a **** - Borini and Allen were enough for me to question his judgement throwing in Williams and Vorm only tips the scale further
Williams and Vorm could have been just paper talk, lazy journalism linking him to ex players. We just don't know simply because of how we are set up in the area.Originally posted by Lecter View PostHe could have also been lying about wanting only 2 or 3 top quality players unless he genuinely thinks Williams and Vorm were top quality
Not instantly no, I'm talking about when he's retired and it can all come out.Originally posted by RoboKop View PostHe won't speak unreservedly if we part ways, he'll have to sign a non-disclosure agreement. And even if not, he wouldn't wanna spill the beans cos he'd make himself less desirable to employ.

He signed up for this system the ambiguity suits him imo, its his human shieldOriginally posted by G View PostIn our case the checks and balances appear to be not up to much, no system is infallible. Based on the signing of Borini and Allen and the pursuit of Sigurdsson I think the Williams and Vorm thing is more than papertalkBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Got to admit I'm wavering. I don't buy the idea that it was all LS last season, but I am naturally suspicious of a manager who manages to spend, what, £100m on players and only carves out Lovren & (a well below par) Balotelli as regular starters. How can we spend £25m on Lallana and he isn't a regular starter? £20m on a kid who never gets a look in? Remy as a plan B? etc.Really?

Dempsey was also mentioned in the Bascombe article
Beyond belief

Pretty sure he came out and spoke enthusiastically about taking this opportunity to improve squad depth a month or so after the 2-3 top player quotes. If he didnt like his level of control over transfers he should not have signed the deal. His stock was high in the summer. Remember him coming out post his deal being bullish on transfers and saying no one signs on that he doesnt want.Originally posted by Lecter View PostHe could have also been lying about wanting only 2 or 3 top quality players unless he genuinely thinks Williams and Vorm were top quality

He only wants players he has worked with before. Never seen him out and about scouting players or it ever been mentioned

Whilst they are not top drawer you cannot say that vorm & Williams would not be an improvement on what we have. Vorm or jones as back up ??
& If we wanted someone to come straight in & better organise the defence, I cannot think of many others available ( with prem experience) we could have gone for.
I would rather have a season of Williams than one with Lovren destroying all around him.
