For me, we don't have a top class defensive midfielder. Maybe that is what we saw Emre Can being - the guy who would be the sitting midfielder for the next 10 years - but i just don't see it to be honest. I think he is more of a box-to-box man.....
Also, Lallana for me we don't know where to put him. I think he is an okay technical player but i think he slows possession down. When we are counter attacking at speed, he seems to like to get his foot on the ball, stop it, have a look around..... for me he has been a huge disappointment and a huge waste of money.....
And Markovic.....well i hope that he is one for the future and nothing was expected of him. But he doesnt even warrant a place on the bench for a team that has Sturridge and Balotelli injured..........that is worrying....
I would like us to make big efforts to sign a top class defensive midfielder. I think we would need to go foreign for that though and FSG might tell the committee to get stuffed if they ask for another 25m or so. To be honest, Alex Song would probably be as low a risk signing as we could make there....
James Milner and Fabian Delph would also be intelligent signings if we could get them - both flexible players and both out of contract in the summer. I suspect Milner will sign a new deal with City as he is starting to play a bit more now (and i can see Toure leaving them in the summer as well) but if we could get him then he would give us options.
But I agree, but the myriad of permutations is mindboggling for the manager IMO, I would like to see a core midfield being formed.
