What are the odds of the same starting line-up as Tuesday (except for maybe Toure for Lovren)?

        .......Marković..............Sterling
        .......................Lambert

That's what we should start with or either put Markovič/Sterling upfront and the other on top of the diamond

Well whatever about Rodgers in or out. If the team he picks, and I am guessing that it will contain Gerrard, Johnson, Skrtel, Henderson, Lucas, Allen, and many other experienced LFC players, cannot get themselves "up" for playing Man Utd at Old Trafford then it will speak volumes about their character.

The very least I will expect, regardless of who starts, is players busting a gut to get a result.

Rodgers is getting criticised for his team selections and tactics, and I cannot argue against a lot of what gets said, but there is no excuse for any experienced players that get picked if they continue to put in going through the motions performances.

Rodgers needs to look at what he is doing, but so do a hell of a lot of the players that are meant to be our core.

Could argue that it is just as risky, and maybe even more so, to start a fully match fit Skrtel or a fully match fit Lovern against a forward line that has a mix of guile, pace, and strength.

I would have more confidence in a 75% fit Sakho against Man U than one from Skrtel or Lovern.

Mate, they didn't look "up for it" in a must win CL game at home to an average Swiss side that should be swatted aside.

And I can guarantee it will be exactly the same on Saturday as it has been for the past 5 games - which we haven't lost. He'll hope to grind out a win and pray their brittle defence ****s up more times than ours.

Have to say, MUFC have found a way of playing ****e sides and getting a win. Our style is exactly the style they want to play against.

The sad thing is that you are right and are probably going to be proven right if our so called big names get picked at the weekend.

I would have far more confidence in this team...

                  ............................Mignolet
                  Manquillo.......Toure............Sakho.........Mor eno
                  .............................Lucas................ ...........
                  ..............Can.........................Lallana
                  ............................Sterling
                  ................Lambert............Borini

...than one that has big names like Gerrard, Skrtel, Johnson etc in it.

And I would be making sure that Coutinho and Markovic would get game time for the final 20 to 25 mins.

Our big names could sit and watch from the sidelines just like they had to at Madrid.

I think the team will be...

                    Mignolet
                    Johnson - Skrtel - Toure - Moreno
                    Lucas
                    Henderson - Allen
                    Gerrard
                    Sterling - Lambert

                    Not necessarily my team

I agree with other posters - we need to control the midfield. UTD are poor (Arsenal and Southampton dominated against them) but they are dangerous in attack.

For all the criticism about our defence and midfield (some of it justifiable) our biggest problem is in attack. No movement from the striker and our most dangerous player poses little threat on goal (lots of pace but poor end product).
                    Another MASSIVE game

Obviously the players in the line up dictate how we can play. But I think it's a lot more to do with what's being asked of them as opposed to what players are starting. Personally I want more pace in the side as I think we're to slow and pedestrian, but at present that's what Rodgers wants, which is why Moreno isn't starting. He wants solidity as opposed to creativity.

Rogers isn't (and shouldn't be) immune from criticism. The players, on times, look as if they have no idea what they are supposed to be doing (i.e. lack of direction from management).

No argument on that, but I do think that when players, experienced players, are struggling to do the basic stuff when on and off the ball that the finger needs to be pointed at them as well as at the manager.

Basic stuff like making a tackle, trying to get a foot or block in, passing to someone wearing the same colour shirt, actually breaking into a run when you have to get back into position, and not looking utterly gormless when the white round thing is at their feet.

Gary Nevilles comments about the Crown v the Dog & Duck (or whatever) isn't a bad one. Both teams are playing terrible - the difference being that one sts in 3rd position, the other team 9th. The difference?? Both teams have dodgy defences - but United pose an attacking threat.

For me, if we defend our bollix off, then we will lose. We need to accept that no matter what we are going to concede goals, but at least if we set out to attack them we might outscore them. We will probably need to score at least 3 goals to win the game....

With that in mind, i would like to see the following team:

                            ------------------------------MIGNOLET--------------------------------

                            JOHNSON--------SKRTEL-----------------TOURE-----------MORENO

                            ------------------------------LUCAS-----------------------------------

                            ------------------HENDERSON-----------COUTINHO------------------

                            MARKOVIC-------------------------------------------------LALLANA

                            ----------------------------BORINI / BALOTELLI---------------------

I dont think that will be the team though. I wouldnt be surprised to see what we did starting against Basel - with Moreno coming in for Enrique. And then we will lose 2-0 and all wonder why Brendan didn't go for it.

I think Gerrard coming off the bench for the last 20 minutes could win the game for us.
