Christmas really has come early, we win a game with attacking play that had a faint resemblance to some of last season and Lovren gets injured. Fantastic!!!!

Fck me that was good wasn't it? I started counting the number of passes after about 30 or so and thought this would be fantastic if it ended up in the back of the net. Almost felt like last season.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostThere must be some sort of clip of our 50+ passes for the first goal? One tit for another.

It is fine when a team like Bournemouth are sitting deep and standing off but when you play someone who presses high up the pitch it becomes a problem. That is when some form of counter attack is needed which we were expert at last season. I thinkthe way we set up last night gave us the option for bothOriginally posted by danperkins View PostWas a great goal. I don't know about anyone else but I find the amount of passing that goes on between our back line infuriating. Aimless side to side passing & usually end up putting themselves under pressure getting closed down close to goal or giving away the ball.

That is 90% of our defensive problem. The fact the defenders spend so much time with the ball, generally passing it sideways or back to the keeper. Opposition now know to close us down high up the field, and because of defenders are actually **** and not passing defenders, they panic and lay a shoddy pass back to the keeper who proceeds to kick it out of touch, giving away possessionOriginally posted by danperkins View PostWas a great goal. Defenders should not be allowed to see that much of the ball, that's the CM job, but we don't have any players who fit that role.Originally posted by fah-qDidn't someone once see Philip Schofield ****ting into a crisp packet?

exactly my thoughts & Bournemouth for the first 20-25 mins of the second half did that. They pushed and pressed high & really should have scored a couple.
Having some pace in the team is absolutely vital in that setup.

It can be irritating. There was one phase of play last night when the back three were passing it between them. Lucas was making a few darting runs forward to try and create some openings, but kept getting ignored. It was Skrtel to Kolo to Skrtel to Lovren etc. Went on for ages. Got absolutely nowhere, and after about a full minute of it it resulted in Skrtel ****ing ****ting it forward and straight out of play. What's the ****in point?!Originally posted by danperkins View PostWas a great goal. I don't know about anyone else but I find the amount of passing that goes on between our back line infuriating. This has happened so much this season, absolutely ridiculous the amount of possession our defenders have. Having possession is great if are controlling the game and making use of it but watching 3 or 4 defenders aimlessly passing the ball to each deep in our half just invites that high pressing on. it really does ask for trouble against a high intensity side.
1) Our defenders aren't good enough in position or technically to do this.
2) There has been a distinct lack of movement from the midfield to get into positions to receive a progressive pass from the defenders & get possession quicker in areas that actually can make a difference.
I do not trust our GK or any of our defenders with the ball deep in our half. I think Gerrard is playing the DM role he is good on the ball when he has time.... but struggles to play that quick sharp pass that Lucas actually can play. Quick, sharp passing was never Gerrard's forte & even less so now that he's lost a yard.

I remember that alright he got a clap from Markovic. I was thinking why the **** are you clapping that ****e
It happens in every single game. It's ridiculous it either puts us under pressure, invites team on top of us in dangerous areas or we give away possession. The odd time we'll eventually get it up the pitch but it wastes so much time & any chance or a quick counter is well gone.

The Secret Footballer once said something interesting about such things - which was that 90% of the time when you see this he said that the player in possession is looking for a specific situation to instigate a training ground move and when they do their team mates don't make the run.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostIt can be irritating. Obviously may not apply but it is an interestingly different way of looking at some scenarios."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
