Different proposition to Bournemouth but a win against these would be absolutely massive! With Johnson & Lovren out the back line should be to everyone's liking finally. Lallana has to start, essential he is & although Lucas wasn't great tonight IMO he has to start against Arsenal aswell.

Wonder will he change the formation? Not sure how that formation would do against a high pressing Arsenal side with a lot of pace. Was great to see that attacking football but maybe bit too open against the quality of Arsenal?

In theory, there isn't too much difference between the 343 and a diamond.

In a diamond, the CB's split & Gerrard drops on. The full backs push on becoming wide players, the two central midfielders push forwards and press up. Only difference is the front three triangle is flipped.

If anything, the 343 can be just as defensive, but stronger centrally. I've never know Arsenal to whack crosses in too much, so a 343 is better IMO.

i get what you mean and its true that his up and down the pitch and pressing days are over.
what he can be is the central guy feeding the passes from 30-40 yards from their goal, a much better chance of not overhitting then from deep in our own area [and keeps him away from the defence area] as he is often lashing it and its not getting to the man. he would just play from the halfway line when we dont have possession to the edge of the oppo box [or 10yds back to quickly recover clearances] when we are attacking.

i think he can give us more by being further forward, but not asking him to have to cover all the pitch. if he stays central, always available to take a pass and quickly move the ball, let the other players do the running and use gerrards intelligence and passing and there is always the chance that he might get the odd shot on target too.

Markovic deserves to start maybe at the expense of Coutinho dropping to the bench and having Moreno come in at left back. The major concern is Brad Jones, what a catastrophe of a goalkeeper he is. He makes Mike Hooper look like Gordon Banks in his prime

It's a funny one this Mignolet / Jones situation.

Goals have been conceded in the past two games that you think Migs might have saved. But Jones does have a calming effect at the back. I don't worry when he has the ball, and when a ball comes into the box, he makes the right decisions on whether to stay or go. Mignolet can make saves all day, but he's lost his bottle in the 18 yard box. He needed a rest.

My feeling is that at the minute the difference between success and failure is getting the first goal. Against United most independent observers seem to think we were perhaps the better team but we fluffed our chances and they didn't.

We are going to be rubbish in defense no matter what we need to get back to opponents fearing us. If the new system allows us to make more chances then I think we have to go with it no matter what dangers it might also provide.

Hopefully Markovic gets a start as he's starting to look dangerous. I assume Sterling will continue up top for a few games at least.
