Villa fans planning a protest against the board and manager which will hopefully make for a horrible atmosphere which we can use to our favour.

Vlaar is out along with Senderos which is a shame

Here's hoping but I've had that feeling before only to get a right kick in the guts type performance.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I still think we're very unpredictable. We're due a thumping win, but if we threw in an abject performance again I wouldn't be remotely surprised.

Oh I agree 100% Pabs. I prefer our chances with Sterling starting though. He is back isn't he?

I had a feeling Villa Park has been a happy hunting ground for us so I checked our last 5 league results there:

            2009/10 W 1-0
            2010/11 L 0-1
            2011/12 W 2-0
            2012/13 W 2-1
            2013/14 W 1-0

I was correct and this at a time when we've been pretty mediocre in the league except for last season.

Having said that it looks like we're overdue a draw there...

              I'd go with:
              Mig
              Can-Skr-Sak
              Mark-Hendo-Lucas-Mor
              Cout-Sterl-Borini

That's a fast front line with plenty of movement and they can press the defence. With Hendo and Lucas as the two CMs, we can pass the ball quickly between the lines.

We might even see Sturridge on the bench for this one

Would be a welcome sight if true.

I like that team. I'd even say Gerrard for Borini. Both would do well imo.

Would we chance Stevie's hammy for Villa? Is he even available?

SG has a good goal scoring record v Villa away or have I imagined that?

The boss explained that Raheem Sterling – who enjoyed a mid-season break – has returned to training and will be in the squad to face Villa.

“Raheem’s back in the squad which is good news,” said the boss. “He’s refreshed and ready to work.”

Rodgers also said Glen Johnson has returned to training but only recently so will have to wait to see his fitness for Saturday.

Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard and Joe Allen trained away from the main group on Thursday and Rodgers said “we’re monitoring the likes of Steven and Adam Lallana.

He later updated on Lallana to say he was ahead of schedule and could be in the squad vs. Villa but would “certainly” return against Chelsea in the League Cup next week.

Daniel Sturridge is not yet ready to play, but is back and in the final stages of his rehabilitation, Rodgers explained.

Rodgers refused to put a timeline on Sturridge’s return.
