I think that there is a clear communication issue somewhere at the club regarding this sort of issue. But it isn't as big an issue as is being made out

We should have a clear list of penalty takers presumably Gerrard, Balotelli, Lambert and then probably Sturridge or Henderson. As the first 3 aren't regular starters, we need to be clear about the order so everyone involved knows, when some of these players are on or off the pitch. It could be for example that at the start of the game Henderson was the penalty taker, but as Balotelli came on he became the penalty taker, but that got lost/forgotten somewhere. If people are unsure as to who is the penalty taker the captain should decide who takes it. Obviously with Gerrard on the pitch no-one argues, but with Henderson the situation is more complicated.

I felt somewhat sorry for Henderson as he was a little undermined as captain with what happened, but I think that Balotelli taking it was the right decision. I don't think that Gerrard should really comment/criticise his team mates on TV, I realise that this puts him in an awkward position (because inevitably he will be asked questions), but I don't think current players should be pundits for their own teams games.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Talk about it sure, but don't lets help blow it out of all proportion.

edit: There was a time when we'd have had the on field malarkey last night and then gone on to miss the penalty, so rejoice!

I think this will be the making of Henderson as captain long term, will give him something to think about and much better it happened now than say next season. As others have said the problem was Balotelli not being the penalty taker in the first place. **** it, move on.

Fiddlesticks........ If we're up on Sky Sunday, that mother****er Shreeves will be behind an interview in the buildup. Won't be Stevie with the injury, so maybe Henderson will be chucked at them........better than having Mario doing it I suppose, but they'd just love to be able to cover this subject if they've still not recorded it.

Sturridge's reaction is poor. What's he thinks he's achieving now in that picture? Mario is about to take put it down and take it and yet he's bitching at Henderson.

I like Daniel Sturridge. He scores a crazy amount of goals. But I've seen it before with him and it was evident all evening, he thinks more about himself at times than the team. His penalty vs Everton last year was abysmal. He thinks he's number one now Luis has gone, but suddenly Mario has his mojo back and I don't think Daniel likes it a lot. Un****inglucky. That's my take, I could be wrong of course.

I also had money on Henderson first goalscorer at 20/1, so in hindsight Henderson definitely should've taken it

He was telling balo to give the ball to hendo, nothing to do with wanting to take it himself. He was sticking up for his mate. He was doing it in completely the wrong way but it wasn't all about him.

I think the opposite. He showed himself to be weak and petulant last night. Sakho or Chan are our future captains.

In a way he did i agree but he walked away from it which was the right thing to do. What i mean is he will learn from the whole thing, including acting slightly petulantly. His first test as captain anyway

So Gerrard also said that BR told him, that if he's not on the pitch the pens go to Balotelli if he is?

Which would mean, no wonder Mario was so surprised not be offered the ball ?

Walked away clearly swearing and pissed off. His first test and he failed spectacularly.

Neither here nor there though because I don't think he's going to be our first choice midfielder in the long term.

What was he supposed to do then? Just stand over Balotelli and make himself look like a tosser?

Its best to have it out in the changing rooms than on the pitch. Just because there are cameras all over the place capturing his every facial expression doesnt mean he failed.

Sorry but am I getting this right, you think in a situation when Sturridge gets angry at Mario for taking the penalty from his captain, Henderson, that demonstrates Sturridge was thinking about himself ahead of the team, not Mario? ****ing hell that's some crazy logic dude.
