It's an interesting team, with quite a few attack minded players: Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana, Ibe and Markovic, but no striker. I get that Sturridge probably can't do two games in a week, and Balotelli's work rate is an issue.

We won 7 out of 8 wasn't it with Sterling up front.
3 games in a week means some rotation is inevitable. Sakho out injured forces Lovren in. We're already established Balotelli should never play without Sturridge, and he's just come back from injury (and didn't look that hot on Thurs night) so I'd imagine we're being careful and rightly so. Thus I guess Sterling up top was the only sane option
Moreno out is the only one I think is a bit odd, but Markovic and Ibe on either side should be quite interesting.
Fully agree. With injuries and Sturridge coming back then this is probably the best team that we could put out. I guess with Moreno playing a fair amount recently and Markovic suspended in the EL, Rodgers is looking to give Markovic some game time in the league.
That Southampton team doesn't look at its strongest either.
