I thought he played quite well! He saw less of the ball out wide but he seems to have learned a few tricks from Coutinho Twice he dropped a shoulder without moving the ball and the defender fell over
Sack swinging like Dub-D40 on a door hinge

Maybe I'm being overly critical as I have him in my FF team.

I did find him quite wasteful at times though and bar the odd move, he didn't look as dangerous as Ibe has recently.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

        Cheers mate

Obviously a limited snapshot of the performance, but both the assist and goal were classic Gerrard.

If he can keep this level up.....

I honestly didn't think he had this in him. Not to take anything away from his past performances, but this is just something else.

Exactly the comments I was seeing from Derby fans when Ibe was stuck in those wing positions. "Not doing enough" or "not enough game intelligence shown" or "not as good today as [another Debry player who was only looking good because of the space created by Ibe's presence]"

Not a slight on you RedReet, just re-assessing my own reading of the game. I watched Sterling as I would Ibe, i.e. because of his pace and reputation is he drawing 2 or even 3 men away? Check.

Are Coutinho and Henderson finding inordintate amounts of space despite such a high pressure closing game Burnley are playing? Check.

Is Sturridge often finding himself one on one with a CB? Check.

Then Sterling has done a wonderful job.
          One tit for another.

Sterling has been way off his best for about 5 or 6 games now IMO. Lucky for us so many others have stepped up.

Did he set up any chances. Nope

Did he get in any crosses. Nope

Did he look like scoring. Nope.

Nah, I'm only messing with you. I was watching the match with no sound and with all the other matches on at the same time I was distracted quite a bit with SSN, so quite a bit of the game passed me by, certainly the more nuanced points.

If you read some of my pre-match comments, I was arguing for the inclusion of Sterling, for the very reasons you have mentioned. Although others don’t, I like him playing up top as even when he doesn’t play well, he still worries opposition defenders and they often change their natural game. I think a MOTD commentator said at one point last week that he had the City defence ‘terrified’, and I agreed, despite many thinking he had a poor game. It reminded me a bit of the Chelsea game. So i don't doubt he had a similar impact out wide, I just wasn't picking up on it for teh reasons mentioned above.

Anyway, understandably he wasn’t involved as much playing RWB last night, so it’s perhaps harsh to judge him on his attacking output, but by his own high standards, he wasn’t as good as he normally is when in possession.

I think that's the beauty of the system and personnel, if ones off form another has the ability to step up and another and another and so on.

                Exciting times.

He actually had a very good game. Tracked back well, won plenty of possession up the pitch, corners, throws , frees etc.

Nice link up play at times too in a role he isn't suited to.

But he hasn't signed a contract yet, so **** em eh.

Lallana was well overshadowed by Henderson.

And that back-pass to Mignolet was ridiculous.

Exciting to have the likes of Sakho, Lucas and Ibe to come back into the side.
I mentioned it a while back. His first thought is always to go back to the keeper and **** how much pressure the keeper is put under

Well compared to Can last night, 21 of his 81 passes were backwards, 10 to keeper. 28 of Can's 76 passes were backwards, 7 to keeper.

Can is obviously more comfortable on the ball and played part of the match in midfield, but statistically Lovren was more progressive.

City was a similar story, so perhaps the problem isn’t Lovren’s mentality, but more his execution.

                                Stats are great aren't they

Lovren put Mignolet under pressure but I guess a fair bit of that could be because Lovren's passes back went to Mignolet's left side
