That would be fine if we didn't simultaneously scrimp when trying to buy proven quality.

It could also have been copy pasted from last year's Lambert thread. At leat Lambert came from a footballing side and not the team top of the long ball stakes.

This signing for me is all about the ambition of the club.

If we're getting shut of Borini and Lambert and replacing them with Ings and Origi it might not be the worst thing, and we might well come close to breaking even, the key lies in if Ings and Origi are going to get Borini and Lambert playing time, if they are and we sign another world class striker which gives us those Sturridge and then, then any choice of Mario/Ings/Origi I'll be happy.

Ive never massively been impressed with Ings when ive seen him play, he grafts yeah but then so does Fabio. Only time will tell if he's worth it, but, if the fee is under £5m and we make some decent money back on Borini and Lambert then I don't see the harm in the transfer.

Don't buy the premiership proven line for a second.

We knew Rickie Lambert could score in this league.

We knew Balotelli could score in this league.

We knew Andy Carroll could score in this league.

By your logic all of them should have been knocking in goals for us as they did not need to adapt to the league or country.

Where you came from means **** all if you do not get played or are unable to make to jump up to a club where more is expected.

I agree with the low cost low risk part of your post, but the proven in this league thing is worthless. We have seen time after time that our Premiership proven players can take as long to settle, if at all, as our purchases from foreign leagues.

Ings I hope tears defences up whenever he gets played for us, but my concern about him (and any other squad filler player we get for that matter) is that they don't get the minutes to show what they can or cannot do.

We have no Sturridge for the opening months of the season so we need Ings, Origi and any other attackers we have to be making up the shortfall in goals from the very first game of the season.

I just hope that Rodgers has learnt from his mistakes of last season and actually plays the strikers that were brought in under him. In many ways that is a bigger concern than what squaddies come in this summer.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Its hard to argue with it when its laid out like that. Especially given that its clearly not a 'Headline' signing.

Its just getting bodies in this. Proven prem goal scorer. I think he will be fine.
Same arguments were put forward when Lambert was announced. Look how that worked out.

Aspas has been **** for us, Lambert and Borini also have not made the grade. We are not Chelsea or City where we can afford tens of millions for someon who isnt going to be first 11.

He may surprise a few of us, He may not....but unlike some deals its a low cost gamble that in my eyes is worth it.

Actually, **** it, who cares. He's not going to cost much and Rodgers will probably play Lallana up front anyway.

Same arguments were put forward when Di Maria was signed and look how that turned out. Nothing is certain in football but if we're going to be constantly negative unless it's a world class talent then what's the point?

But how much have we wasted on players, we deep down knew they wouldn't cut it? Borini, Lambert, Aspas, Alberto, Assaidi, Balotelli even, it's a waste of resources and a waste of a spot in the squad to keep taking punts. I have in the past been optimistic and looked for the brighter side but I think we need to change how we do things.

He did OK, first season adapting to a new league coming into a side that was a complete basket case. He contributed more for United than Lambert did for us. He's only seen as a failure because they overpaid by so much for him.

Not massively excited by Ings but to be honest I've barely seen him play, so I'm probably being a bit harsh. If he comes in as third choice and scores ten league goals next season then I'll be happy with that.
10 goals as first choice would be an improvement
