Personally I have no issues whatsoever with people not rating a player or thinking the club is doing this wrong but some of the excessive "everything is ****" mentality is getting really rather over the top and honestly would read to fans of most other clubs in the country as demonstrating the sort of entitled attitude LFC fans are often accused of holding.

Not only is Ings a better player than most are making out, and deserves a fair chance from the fans for wanting to pull on our shirt, but also his signing doesn't have to fit some overall narrative about sliding towards mediocrity unless people insist on drawing ridiculous comparisons with Suarez as if he should be the measuring stick for every signing of any status we ever make for ever more.

The lack of balance and realism going around right now is really unhealthy imo; people were far happier to convince themselves that quite obviously the worst striker in the world for us was a good signing last year because he was a big name but when we go out and actually demonstrate some nouse, picking up a young player FAR better suited to our play with an infinitely better attitude and for a third of the fee, who just isn't very exotic, the sky is falling in?

I just find the extrapolation from "I don't rate Ings even for £6m" to "We're the new Aston Villa" absurd.

So because people were wrong about Lambert similar reasoning must be wrong about every other signing ever? You don't see the obvious problem with that argument?

The alternative narrative is that we are making an inspired signing of someone with incredible potential, when in fact we are buying a second tier striker for real money. Investing in the first eleven, and goalscorers in particular, is a far more efficient way of spending money in the PL. That's where the ings money should be going imo. Youre comparing it to the balotelli purchase, which is a bit of a low blow seeing as that was a cluster ****. We have a player that was a third of the price with the right attitude already and we should keep him and replace Mario with one player worth as much as we can afford.

Despite people's reservations (not mine) about him I think everyone will be happy to look foolish with him knocking in 15+ goals next season.

The things I'm not envisaging from Ings:

      1. Ings v Lambert: Ings won't offer zero pace, he won't offer static play due to age/fitness and Ings won't be reluctant to work the channels (again fitness/age)

      2. Ings v Balotelli: he won't be Balotelli, that's good enough

      3. Ings v Borini: Ings won't be a little butterfly fluttering around the beautiful edges of the flower that is a premier league game. Ings won't get brushed down at the first gust of a defender farting and Ings won't dribble like a duck with a ball at its feet
      One tit for another.

I definitely hope he's great, it happens sometimes.

nobody would have been in a strop if we had signed the a decent striker first and then danny ings afterwards.

what you dont want to happen is come the final day of the transfer window and we are still trying to complete deals for balotelli, lambert and borini in order to generate the funds to sign carlos bacca.

in recent windows we seem to get the squad fillers done quickly and then are left with nothing or major financial hurdles to get the main targets.

That's because that situation would be fine, at this point there is no guarantee we will sign a decent striker, at this point I think we'll look to move Lambert, Balotelli & Borini on before we bring in another forward.

And Aspas, unless his move to Sevilla is done, which I wont believe until I see.

I'm not sure that buying Ings means we are looking to offload Lambert, in fact the opposite. Before Jay Rodriguez got injured we were heavily linked with him and once that fell through we didn't really have the right partner for Lambert, which is why we didn't play him much IMO (a bit like the Barry/Keane argument). Ings though is very similar to Rodriquez and would work extremely well with Lambert, so seeing as Sturridge is constantly injured, I wouldn't be surprised to see us build our attack around these two. It won't be just as good as having Suarez and Sturridge, but them 2 plus Sturridge could definitely be as good, if not better than our treble winning trio of English forwards in 2001.

                Great signing for me.

(God, I'm bored, but i wonder if anyone will take the bait...)

So we have Sturridge always injured,Ings might have done reasonably well in his first season but will have to settle into the lfc system bench player at most.....Origi unproven,Lambert what was the point he wasted his time signing for the club,Balottelli waste of money and Borini 25 apps in his time at Anfield again a waste of money..... Overall loads of money wasted.

Couldn't agree more with this statement. I get really fed up with fans preferring top 4 to winning silverware.

It's all down to the UEFA changes in their cup competitions in the 1990's which made the Champions League the be all and end all to a lot of people due to the money involved.

In my opinion UEFA ****ed football up big style with those changes. It made the game a mess because it created the have's and the have not's perception.

Only the champions should play in the Champions League end of...

He won't get close to 15 goals a season and his record at Burnley is not disimilar to Borini at Sunderland.

Personally I see this as another waste of money on a poor player.

He's not a poor player but he's just not good enough for us and he most certainly is not the calibre of player we need, just like almost every player we signed last summer he's decent at a club like Southampton/Burnley but not what we need and will never be.

As others have said the money that will be spent on his wages and signing on fee should go towards signing some players that could actually improve us.

Liverpool FC sign Danny Ings: 'Ings could score 20 a season at Anfield'
                              19:00, 8 JUNE 2015

                              BY KRISTIAN WALSH

We speak to Lancashire Telegraph sports writer Chris Flanagan about the Reds' new striker

With Liverpool FC confirming the signing of Burnley striker Danny Ings, we spoke to Chris Flanagan, sports writer of the Lancashire Telegraph, to get the local view on the 22-year-old.

What sort of player is Ings?

Chris Flanagan: "Ingsy is a very clever player. It needs to be said that his first touch is excellent. He also has pace, finishing ability, he’s strong, works hard for the team and creates chances. And of course, his scoring record with 11 goals speaks for itself.

"There’s times when he missed two or three chances this season. Last season, he scored a lot more of his chances and was very clinical. But even this year to an extent, he’s done well in front of goal and managed to get 11."

Will he be able to adapt as a squad option rather than starting every week?

CF: "Obviously every player would prefer to be starting week-in, week-out. He faced something like that earlier in his career when Charlie Austin was here, and flourished when he left.

"There’s no reason Ingsy can’t do well at Anfield – ideally, like most players, he would like to be a regular. He can be an important player."

His record at Burnley in his first two seasons wasn’t too good – why was that?

CF: "Injuries. He arrived and hurt his knee, putting him out. He then came back, and injured it again. When he came back the second time, Charlie Austin was still the man and Ings was ****. But he was incredible as soon as Austin left, which was a big boost for Burnley, as they were wondering how they would replace him."

Does he play best as a lone striker or in a partnership?

CF: "He hasn’t really played as a lone striker. Where he’s thrived is in a two with Sam Vokes or Ashley Barnes. Again, with his pace, he could perhaps play as a one but enjoys having a target man to play off."

Can he make the step up at Anfield?

CF: "He got 11 goals for Burnley. He will get more chances for Liverpool and there’s no reason why he couldn’t score 20 in a season.

"You can’t expect Luis Suarez, of course. He’s still young and learning - **** compared to Suarez - but he’s only going to get better, especially if his rate of progression carries on. It would be interesting to see him with Sturridge.

"Liverpool have been linked with Benteke and he would be the traditional target man he likes to play with."

How do Burnley fans feel about him?

CF: "It’s been known he was going, his contract has been running down and his departure has been a likely scenario for about 18 months. The fans gave him a great send off and he scored on his farewell appearance."

What's he like off the field?

CF: "Ingsy is a great lad. Humble, not flashy. He likes nothing more than heading down to his local after training, on his own, and just to chill out with five or six pints of Foster's and some "me time" on the fruit machine.

"I've got a funny story about that actually. I was due to interview one of the backroom staff and we agreed to meet in the pub that was Ingsy's local. We were sitting in a quiet corner, chatting, doing the interview, when we heard someone saying "Focus! Focus!". I looked up and it was Ingsy on the fruit machine, tapping his head, saying 'focus!' over and over and with a look on his face that said "I AM going to win this jackpot".

"That says everything you need to know about Ingsy and his attitude - he's determined to win, and that's all his focus is ever on. Winning."
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
