Did he even touch the ball

We can’t play him out wide he doesn’t know what to do - if he is coming on he has to play through the middle. These games are really exposing how thin our squad is.
    Modifying post.

He looked a bit lost Ingsy. Yeah squad is paper thin at the moment.

            Not according to Chris Sutton.

Actually he got a really good block on their full back to whittle away some vital seconds in the last 30 seconds.

Also laid off the ball nicely to midfield to set up another attack.

It’s not his fault he’s being compared with Salah, Firmino and Mane.

It showed why we need another top forward as they were able to push right up without the threat of a ball over the top.

He just does not fit tactically for me

he's a worker than will get the odd goal but nowhere near the quality required IMO. Looked lost when he came on.

                      Championship at best.

Are folk expecting Ings to be a world beater? It's absolutely bonkers.

Since Klopp's arrival in 2015, Ings has played in 15 games in all competitions, including substitutions.

OK, he may be nowhere near full sharpness, but when he's barely getting game time, and to then expect him to compete with Salah, Mane and Firmino, is crazy.

I think he should've been sent out on loan to get him the minutes under his belt, and he could've come back ready to go, but we've kept him, and now he's being targeted unfairly IMO. Very few people are considering the entire picture when it comes Ings.

I don't expect much of him at all. Why would anyone?

He's played about 4 games in 24 months - I think we should wait and see what Klopp's magic can do with him if he can stay fit

Is it just me who find comments like that somewhat unnecessarily disrespectful? Essentially stating the lad is at league 1 level is nonsense, before signing for us he proved he was capable of being a decent prem striker for a smaller team, with the potential and attitude to develop beyond that. Those injuries perhaps put the mockers on that development, but I'm quite sure there'll be prem teams interested in him this summer if we're selling and he'll do well for them with a real run of games if that does happen.

Seriously, someone potentially not quite being good enough for us does not mean they should be plying their trade in the lower leagues by default, particularly if they have the level of professionalism and heart Danny Ings does.

We have very high standards for players, some players don't make it with us (or other top clubs) but are still good PL players. Ings showed himself to be a good player in a struggling Burnley side, we signed him because he had potential, the injuries have undoubtedly set his career back, and whether he will fulfil that potential who knows. My view at the moment it that he still isn't match fit (after being out for 2 years, it will take months to get back to that level). But if we were to sell him this summer I have no doubt that there would be a string of PL clubs in for him.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
