If he was sold this summer, I would lose no sleep over it. If we replace him with a better player I'll be delighted. Whether he'll ever be good enough for us remains to be seen (although admittedly the odds are stacked against him), but he still had a good season for Burnley in first and only full PL season and looked very promising for us before he pick up that injury for England. To suggest he didn't that that he's never been good enough for the Premiership is nonsense. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

That could be said of most of the team. Nobody at all will have any problems if we do sell him, there is only a section who will if we don't.Originally posted by vlahka View PostEnd of the day you have to ask yourself, can we replace him with someone better? And for the record, I don't mind if we keep him, as long as we don't need to play him when it matters.Last edited by Kenneth; 26-04-18, 11:30 AM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

if we got a replacement for ings then the other player wouldnt be playing regular first team games, and would have long spells on the bench. there would be some rotation and some 10-15 minute substitute appearances but is that enough to click with the rest of the players and ensure we can maintain the standard when we sub off or rotate with some key players.
we could possibly be looking at 20m+ for ings given how mental the market has gone and the mad money some of the pub teams have recently got.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

I doubt we'd get 10mill for him. It would mainly be loan deals till his contract ran out. I'd rather we had one of our youth players on the bench than him.Originally posted by baitman View Postif we got a replacement for ings then the other player wouldnt be playing regular first team games, and would have long spells on the bench. there would be some rotation and some 10-15 minute substitute appearances but is that enough to click with the rest of the players and ensure we can maintain the standard when we sub off or rotate with some key players.

Yeah I don't disagree with all that entirely, I just felt that dismissing him as Championship "at best" was a bit overly reductive/harsh without providing at least some context to that opinion. You're right, he's not a spectacular player, but at the point we signed him he had, imo anyway, the time and mentality to improve further (unlike Carroll who never had a similar mindset and was never in a million years a lfc player, even a hardly playing squaddie). Those injuries probably robbed him of that (slim but not impossible) chance, but I daresay the vast vast majority of forwards outside the top 6 in the Prem who hadn't had 2 years out injured would look rather ****e in our attack when compared with our existing trio. I honestly think there's very few teams outside the top section of the league who wouldn't think that with regular first team games he could do well for them.Originally posted by vlahka View PostI dont believe its disrespectful at all. Its possibly tongue in cheek comment though as its easier to say championship level rather than 16th possibly 20th team level. Ignoring his 1 decent season, he isnt that spectacular. We can bring up many examples of past strikers who have come here who never looked the part. I'll mention Carroll as example. Cost heaps, did 1 good season, but you could see he was never going to do well here because our style is much different. Compare movement of say Salah, Mane, Firmino, not their goals, just the way they move. Carroll never did that. Ings doesnt do that either. Theres no real intelligence there, only drive. That will only get you so far.I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

i was always keen to see him join us when he was at burnley.
he non stop work rate had to be admired, and he would often be scrapping for the ball on the half way line and virtually making his own chances.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
