Just wondering what people thoughts were on him today? I thought him and Pennant were the worst players on the pitch. It got me thinking how excited we were in the summer that he signed (Like Smicer in 99?) and he has produced so little and doesn't look bothered. Unlike Smicer who did try to be fair to him.

Gonzalez, the new Smicer but with no heart?
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

I thought Gonalez wasn't as bad as you made out.
He saw a lot of the ball, made some good crosses, made some poor crosses. The thing i like about him is if he makes the space, he's always willing to shoot. On the Ning Nang Nong

I think with Gonzalez, we've all got to remember that he's a young lad that's moved into the most physical league in the world and he's still finding his feet. He's probably still learning English too.
If he's not progressed beyond the level he is now in a year - two years time, then we can condemn him and get rid.
Until then, we should all try to support him.
Pennant on the other hand? Hmmm...Tales of the Beanworld - A most peculiar comic book experience

I don't think the plan was for Gonzalez to be playing this early in the season away from home.
With Kewell's injury though, and i dunno what's happened to Aurelio, it looks like we have no other option, unless Warnock goes left back and Riise reverts to midfield. On the Ning Nang Nong

A couple of points:
1) If Kewell was back, everyone would be moaning about how innefectual he is, after 5 or 6 games. It's nice, no, delusional to think we're so bad becuase he's missing. the reality is that you can count the decent performances he's given us on one hand. time to look elsewhere for excuses/solutions
2) Gonzalez needs time to settle and a run of games once he has settled before he can be judged. To say he's like Smicer with no heart is ludicrous. Smicer was the biggest bottler I've ever seen in my life. He was a disgrace more often than not and I'm embarrased that he was at Liverpool for so long. I've lost count of the amount of times I saw him pull out of 50/50 challenges, and go missing on cold nights against technically inferior oppoisiton. Don't let one or two important goals (in the CL final, against Chelsea) cloud all the shoddy "work" he did for us over the years.
Granted, Gonzalez looks a bit over priced at the moment.....but at least wait until the team are performing before singling out individuals for criticism.

Originally posted by anfieldanfieldSmicer was a much, much better footballer than Gonzalez.
That said, I thought Gonzalez did ok tonight, at least he was trying to make something happen, even if he generally overhit his crosses and misplaced his passes.
We must have our wires crossed...I was talking about VLADIMIR Smicer. You'll have to refresh me of this "other" Smicer that was so good for LFC......
