Speedy put in the effort against Boro which is more than can be said for most of the other players. He was our best player in the first half but tailed off in the second. He forced two saves from their keeper and generally (esp when switched to the right) drove forward. How anyone can say he was amongst the two worst players against Boro is beyond me. Granted his crossing was poor but the likes of Pennant, Finnan, and Riise were complete trash. Some of the stupid passing between Finnan and Pennant during the match defied belief. Sunday league level.

Everytime i've watched Speedy play live i've been impressed by his work rate.
His set pieces have been loads better.
Riise and Speedy look to be a great left sided pairing
When i've watched him on the tele hasn't looked the same, maybe he's not TV friendly!!!
Yesterday just thought he looked tired 2nd half.
We need to give Speedy a good run out before shooting him down, wing play can be very lonley and your out of the action a lot, yet he was on the ball as much as anyone else. Its times like these we learn to live again FF

I remember an identical thread being made at the start of the season, which I think somebody got banned in too.
I also remember one poster claiming Gonzalez had settled because he scored in the Charity Shield .......
The truth lies somewhere in the middle, what we've got in Gonzalez is a 21 year old winger, who's never played a full seasons football in Europe. I think he has about 50-60 games under his belt in the last three seasons.
He's still learning and he has a lot to learn. At times he's very wasteful, he's lacking conviction in some of the things he does. He seems to be stumped on occasions when he is one on one with a full back.
But ........he's got enough pace and power to be a danger, he can be a good crosser (he needs more consistency) and he's got an eye for goal. He's a work in progress and people who thought otherwise because of the hype probably now realise it.
He's not good enough at the moment, but there is plenty of potential there.

sheesh...another doom and gloom merchant. Had my reservations on him earlier on the season, however in terms of last night's game he actually played quite well in terms of movement and commitment. He's always improving and definately a gem in the making (just remember he's only 21 and really hasn't played a full season in the past few years). Actually i thought on certain occassions with stevieg in the middle, he (steveg) tended to waste more of the ball....no i think Gonzo was actually more productive than stevie last night yet you decide to lambast gonzo?Last edited by Myo; 19-11-06, 11:45 AM.
