Not much protection from the right-sided midfielder on view today, which is 'surprising' because his cheerleaders like to insist that defensive cover is one of the reasons we can't do without him.

If I played that bad I'd be saying I had a hamstring injury too, hide away for a few weeks.
Inevitably Joe Gomez will end up playing for Aston Villa or Bournemouth.Last edited by danperkins; 22-02-23, 08:27 AM.

He's had four major injuries now the poor *******. I'm surprised he's still playing at this level to be honest.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostFeel a little bit sorry for him. I think his HG status will save him, with Ox, Milner, Phillips and Kelleher all potentially on their way out that leaves us very few HG players, as we can't put anyone else in those slots it could come down to do we have him as an extra body in the squad or no one.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostFeel a little bit sorry for him. He's also lost some of that insane pace he once had. Sure he's still quick but he used to be absolutely rapid.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostFeel a little bit sorry for him. Yep, he's had a career were he should be easily be Englands best CB robbed from him through nothing but **** luck.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostFeel a little bit sorry for him. But **** me, why oh why does Klopp persist with him? Its glaringly obvious to anyone that watches him play that he shy's away from any form of contact (don't blame him with his injuries tbf) But you just cant carry that type of timidness at CB."When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah

Daily training maybe?Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostI know Matip has not played well recently but he is surely a far better option than Gomez? What is Klopp seeing that the rest of us aren't.
Can assume Gomez was chosen last night for his pace.Last edited by rudedog; 22-02-23, 09:39 AM.

He’s always had a mistake in him though. Judging the flight of balls in the air seems to be a particular problem for him. Then there’s the last night, incidents that weren’t a surprise to anyone. Maybe he’s what a world class CB with ADHD looks like.Originally posted by Harv View PostYep, he's had a career were he should be easily be Englands best CB robbed from him through nothing but **** luck.

He's a really frustrating player because he is capable of some top class performances (we have even seen a few this season), but when he's bad he can be really awful. Even if he could 'just' put in solid performances (nothing spectacular, but nothing dire) week in week out that would be better, because I feel the massive inconsistency is the problem, like with so many of our players you see what they are capable of and think if they can play like that every game or if they can just stay fit... The problem is they can't.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Nah, his problems aren't physical though, they are psychological. He hasn't seemingly got the mental attitude to be a consistent performer.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostFeel a little bit sorry for him. When he is bad he is really, really bad and his head just goes.
