He was boss. I'd have no hesitation in him playing at any venue in any defensive position.

He's very calm and composed, and very strong. Doesn't make rash decisions, which is a bit what undermines Moreno, who's better going forward.

I think we have a good squad this year.
      Are we winning?

Up against that big stocking of ****e Walters won't have been an easy debut but he handled him superbly. No doubts Hughes will have told Walters to rough him up but he got nowhere with it.

A massive upgrade on Moreno. He will be going to the Euros next summer.

But we played Lovren anyway. he won't be happy

I'm not sure he's a massive upgrade *but* Gomez looks a lot more assured defensively, whereas I feel Moreno probably offers a bit more going forward.

They both have their strengths and it's good to have the depth, especially with us having to deal with the Europa.

With all due respect to Moreno, Walters would have chewed the little fella up and then poo'ed him out today. Gomez was in trouble at times today but he let Walters know he was there and ready to barge back.

We signed some high profile players during the summer in Milner, Benteke and Firmino, but Clyne and Gomez could prove to be our most shrewd business. We needed to add goals, but we also needed to firm up our defence and provide better service to our attacking players.

Good debut, a couple of mistakes but was so powerful and good in the air for the most part.

Maybe he will end up at centre back by the end of the season.

Both him and Clyne seem to be quite strong in the air which is not always the case with fullbacks but really helps out the other defenders I think. Don't think Moreno would have won as many headers as Gomes did yesterday.

He will be considered the best defender in the lg within 3 years ... 18 years old and he looks totally at ease, in control playing out of position away to a very very good physical Stoke team

So good at 18, he will be a boss player by the time he reaches his peak. Very astute signing by the club.

Remarkable kid. I can hardly believe it. He will have dips though and he'll make mistakes, so it's important to stay rational when it happens. Early days but it does look one of the most astute signings we've made for a while.

I also thought he'd join the very long list other youngsters we buy, loan out and are never seen again, but he's been a revelation in the short time he's been here. Unbelievably composed. Hell of a find.

Not only a great find but credit to a manager under immense pressure, to play a young kid and out of position. Rodgers has balls.
