I'd be tempted to play him at CB against Carlisle.

I would too if he wasn't needed in the first team at left back. We can't overplay him so he should be taking a break in the cup games.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

This is the reason why we shouldn't build this kid up too much, so much pressure on him as is. We do have a tendency to do that. Had a real shocker today and I hope it doesn't affect his confidence. Has done great before this game but there is a limitation to what he can do going forward. We were so narrow today in our formation we rely on our full backs to get forward in wide areas, stretch the game and get some service in to the front men.

Gomez is a real defender but he offers nothing going forward. Moreno is decent going forward but offers nothing defensively. What do you go with? Anyways i hope this set back doesn't get his head down.

Simple...tough matches go defensively, at home to some ****e like west ham, get some natural pace and with in the team

absolutely. Same in the middle of the park too many players that too similar and concentrating on being "solid".... means zero creativity & tumbleweeds blowing around up top.

Just start him and Sakho together with Clyne and Moreno.
Let the 4 of them develop as a unit and **** the chuckle brothers right off

It's too much to expect him to play every game, he should have been rested before he had a bad performance. The whole team sounded as if they were not on it today not just Joe.

The lad looks a class act, I'm sure this is just one bump in the road towards him becoming a top class CB.

I didn't think Gomez was that bad, he was IMO better than both Skrtel and Lovren admittedly that isn't saying much, but my view is that as a youngster he can only be as good as the experienced players around let him be. With the chaos that was our defending today in only his 4th game for the club he would have been looking for guidance that wouldn't have come.

Yep, whats the worst that can happen? We'll gift the opposition a few goals? Well...we've done that enough over Brendan's time here. Watching the same mistakes from senior professionals is ****ing infuriating, we've seen the Skrtel backing off and we concede a goal today, at Stoke last season, at Stoke in 2014, at Hull in 2013 etc etc, how long do we have to put up with this ****? He isnt going to learn so **** him off.

If we are willing to carry centre halfs who make mistakes all the time it should be younguns like Gomez or Ilori, at least they might actually learn from them.

We've looked good defensively twice under Brendan, when Skrtel was dropped for Carra in his first season (and shock horror, our defensive record improved, that is what tends to happen when you play your best defenders over a period of time). And last season the 3 with Can, Skrtel and Sakho. We've not looked good defensively in a 2 with Martin Skrtel at any time under Brendan Rodgers, yet here we are years later still ****ing doing it!! And even worse we've now managed to get him a mental partner instead of Agger, Sakho or Carra!

Persisting with this would be utter madness, we've got one who thinks he's Paolo Maldini so is doing all kinds of mad **** on the ball when he's actually more like Titus Bramble, and his centre half mate, the tatt'd up bald hardman who is so scared of the football and people that he actively runs away from them to go and hug our goalkeeper.

Still, the world is alright again if we beat Man Utd, but although they are not very good they still have the quality to punish every dumb mistake we make at the back, like last year when we lost 3-0 despite dominating the whole game.

Liverpool have sent Joe Gomez for a scan amid fears that the defender suffered an ACL injury playing for England under-21s last night.
