Perhaps an upcoming defender? Would Laporte qualify?

Laporte is already a quality defender even though he is only 22. The one knock against him is that he is returning from a fractured ankle.

He would certainly not cost the sort of fee a young and upcoming player would cost. Laporte would instead cost massive money.

He would be a genuine quality signing in my eyes, a pipedream maybe, but an amazing signing for whichever team eventually gets him be it this window or during a future transfer window.

Said it before, but even if he did not improve any further upon the quality of his current play but just added experience to it, he would still be a smashing player.

No chance of getting Laporte unfortunately, looks an outstanding talent.

I really think it's a dodgy area for us. Was saying few months ago that we need to bring in another quality CB along with Matip. Now that Skrtel is gone, Kolo released, Gomez injured, Sakho is injury prone/patchy form, Lovren brain fart prone, Matip being new to the league ..... i can see us coming unstuck in this area. A fit Vermalen is excellent, but that's never going to happen he's an absolute crock.

Never thought Wisdom was good enough & I can't see illori being here for much longer as doesn't seem to be getting a look in. Tah, Jimenez, Sule, Romagnoli, Rugani, lot of exceptional young talents coming out at CB. I'd love if we got Godin but another pipe dream too. I'd love for us to spend on another CB but we'll most likely get a stop gap to fill in. Maybe we'll get Caulker back

The problem with some of the young CBs you mentioned are that they would be very right sided in their playing positions and where we need quality cover/competition/replacement is on the left side.

Umtiti would have been an ideal choice. Left footed, good passer, stronger, quick, good with the ball to feet.

Of the names you mentioned I would probably pick Tah if I wanted to try and fit a RCB into the LCB slot. He is quick, aggressive, very strong, good in the air and looks like he would suit a team that wants to play a high line or pressing game.

Sule I like too but he for me would suit the opposite sort of team play as Tah. Sule for me would be the sort of aerially dominant CB that would suit a counter attacking team that soaks up pressure.

Another reason for liking those two would be the language side of things. We have a German speaking keeper (two of them actually as am pretty sure German is one of a number of languages spoken by Mig), at least one German speaking RCB, and a German speaker in midfield. Yes Klopp is a manager who likes to have the players all speaking the language of the country they are in going by his time at Dortmund, but it could not hurt to have the spine of the team all able to speak the same language (if all could not speak English) whilst a number are settling in to a new league and country.

Even with everyone fit and available, I still think we need bring in a top class CB. Whilst we have some good defenders, we don't have anyone that is outstanding or potential worldclass standard. Would love us to get Tah.

I'd love if we went for Tah but personally I think he's destined for Munich. Sule is a beast. Umtiti had a good cameo in the Euros. I don't trust in Lovren or Sakho to be honest & am yet to be convinced by Matip in the games i've seen him play. I just worry we'll be left stuck.

Lovren has hardly put a foot wrong since Klopp arrived, Matip is a player he has wanted since Dortmund and Sakho is a beast when on form. There is no way we are going to pay top dollar for a word class CB. A partnership is more important than individual ability and City have proven that paying big money for a CB counts for nothing. Kompany was one of the lower profile players they bought at the time and they have spent over £100m (I'd guess) paying over the odds trying to find another as good as him.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Sule is a beast, but I think he would not suit how we think we are going to play under Klopp. Sule for me is going to be an excellent last line of defence CB who mops up attacks in the air and on the ground.

I reckon that in a team that played a higher line than Hoffenheim he would get caught out a bit when his team is trying to press. Sule for me could excel in the Sami role in a Rafa team.

Tah on the other hand looks tailor made for a team that uses a high line and looks the type that would be comfortable being part of that team pressing action. Not to mention that he looks like he will be a physical specimen well able to defend against pace/agility or brute force.

Umtiti we can forget about as Barca bought him, and Lyon then went and got in a very good replacement on a free.

I think you might be a bit harsh on Sako and Lovern as they really seemed to be on the same wavelength towards the end of last season and were able to mop up well whenever the other was lacking.

Matip I reckon will come good once he settles. He is a classy enough player and one that should look a lot better when he has better players around him so that his passing game/playing from the back game can be better utilised.

Lovren has done well under Klopp but he still has a lot to prove. Sakho can be brilliant one week and horrendous the next. Matip in the premier league is an unknown and in the small amounts of games i've seen him in, he is prone to the regular brainfart aswell. We always seem to get royally ****ed over with key injuries early on in the season. I agree we won't pay top dollar for another CB but I hope whomever he gets is more than capable and not a Caulker like signing.

So we now know that Gomez is made from the same adamantium that Sturridge is. Its always the good ones.

We need to reign in any more money we were going to spend up front and put it all on an expensive and accomplished CB. We were always short after Kolo and Skrtel left but any loss of form or injury to our current lot and we can write off the season (again).
                        One tit for another.

One of the lads compared him to Sami yesterday, I do agree with that alright. I coming from a negative view point as we haven't been able to develop a settled defence in years, so many injuries and under performing players. What a relief it would be to finally nail down a solid performing defence. Clyne for me is the only one that i fully trust at the moment. Lovren and Sakho we'll see. Moreno just scares the piss out of me.

So would any potential new signing, regardless of how well they have played for their current club. At least we know Lovren is capable on his day and who knows, might gel well with Matip and move up a level or two. From the limited action I've seen of Matip, he like to press high and is comfortable on the ball, so could make a good partner on paper for Lovren.

Matip was Klopp's first signing and I think he rates him highly. Klopp will be trying to find the perfect partner for him, so I can't see him risking much money for another CB, before he first tries what he's already got at his disposal.

How much he's willing to spend on a reserve CB remains to be seen.

hope it all clicks, no forgiveness in our opening fixtures. I think we'll see a free signing or experienced head coming in for a few million.
