Thanjk you.

For all the stuff about Carragher he was positionally superb even at a young age
Is that true though? Houllier and Benitez had much more defensive fullbacks, whereas Klopp encourages attacks from fullback, which will inevitably lead to getting caught out more often. Also Gomez was playing more at the start of the season before VVD joined.
I actually thought Carra got forward into better positions going forward as a left back ( Babel Hyypia Henchoz Carra... thats possibly the most solid back line I have seen). He definitely matured a lot later on. I think Gomez still has a long, long way to go to get anywhere near the player that Carra became though... he really needs games. Carra was lucky in that all of our other fullbacks were made of glass, and meant he got a lot of games. He also had the mentality of a lion.
I dont think Gomez will get anywhere near as many games, as arguably he is 3rd choice rightback and 5th choice centreback. He may be better off loaned out for a couple of seasons as experience is probably a defenders greatest asset... unless Trent is moved further forward... cant see that though.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

I always thought that Carra came back a better player. more attacking and accomplished after his leg break. I might have made that up but seem to recall thinking that, but then it was 15 years ago

Gomez's problems arent on the Alberto moreno scale of being out of position and its not about rampaging forward either
To me Gomez struggles with the following
Being goalside all the time, when diagonal balls are played into the fullback area he gets lost and frequently ends up the wrong side of a winger
Equally when balls are played into the box his bodyshape looks off and again he ends up not being goalside, this happened a couple of times and cost us a goal or two, one v West Ham immediately springs to mind but there was a couple of others
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."
i think he will benefit from playing alongside Virgil though. Just like Robertson has. Just like Trent has. Just like Lovren has.
Virgil was a brilliant signing. Cost a ****load but the fact that he makes players around him better just adds to the whole VVD package....
At centrehalf???
I just dont see him in there
Major doubts about his ability in the air, not sure hes physically strong enough either, then you have the positional stuff I mentioned above
I think we've plucked this centrehalf role out of thin air really, and a lot of the recent stuff is based on him playing in a back 3 for England (a system which we dont play)
