He (Clyne) started the league cup game against Chelsea and I'm sure he's been an unused sub in a few games, So I guess whatever reasons are for him not playing they are fitness or football related rather than anything else. But considering he was our first choice RB before his injury and he can cover both full back positions, given the lack of depth in those areas it seem very odd.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I would assume it's for the same reason that Robertson didn't make the bench last year and Moreno at times this year. It's hard to justify giving a space to a player who can only play in one position, when you already have players that can cover there.Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostGomez’s position is CB, I don’t think there’s any doubt about that now.
It’s not ideal that half of our 1st choice CB pairing is also having to fill in at RB.
Banging my head against a brick wall with the Clyne thing here
The guy hasn’t been an option since the season before last. He’s not officially injured, yet he’s still not being included in match day squads. Something is up there and he clearly isn’t currently being considered as an option by Klopp. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Clyne can play at right back or left back, which I would have thought would moved him ahead of Moreno in the race for the benchOriginally posted by RedReet View PostI would assume it's for the same reason that Robertson didn't make the bench last year and Moreno at times this year. Not rotation. But playing one of your first choice centre backs at fullback. More running, more attacking, more chance of getting injured. It's ultimately bad luck but the risks were heightened.Originally posted by dom9 View PostI was wondering when someone would imply that Klopp's rotation is to blame on the injury.
Although I suppose that if he had been rested, he wouldn't have got injured either.

Bit harsh on Gomez - a leg fracture is just unlucky, and he's still young. I remember Gerrard's "growing pains" under Houllier when he was out with various issues in his younger days. Still time for Gomez to become indestructible.Originally posted by BigChief View PostGomez and Sturridge are two of the most exciting players I've seen in a Liverpool shirt over the last 10 years. It's a shame they're made of the same material.

You only need a player to play one position at a time, and we’re talking about rotation, so it’s not about versatility.Originally posted by RedReet View PostI would assume it's for the same reason that Robertson didn't make the bench last year and Moreno at times this year. Robertson was a new signing adjusting to Klopp’s playing style. Clyne was previously a 1st choice, who’s played many times for Klopp already. So that’s not the same.
Moreno is on the bench most games, plus a few starts. Clyne has 1 league cup start and has been on the bench twice. So not really comparable either.
Whatever the reasons with Clyne, our 2 main right back options are Trent and our centre back..

Klopp on Clyne’s injury: "Yesterday he was out on the pitch doing a bit of running but in a bit of pain. He's not available. I don't know exactly how long. It is too complicated to explain what he's done but it's nothing ruptured and nothing broken. It's an intensity reaction."
Didn’t mean for this to be a discussion about Clyne, but there we go. He wasn’t an option last season. He hasn’t been so far this season, and doesn’t sound like he will be for the foreseeable..

In terms of subs you would like to be able to cover all positions as well as mix things up, so having players who can play in a number of positions on the bench (or on the pitch that you can switch around) helpsOriginally posted by Pepe79 View PostYou only need a player to play one position at a time, and we’re talking about rotation, so it’s not about versatility.

Yes, but I'm talking about having somone other than Gomez to rotate at right back. And the issue with Clyne isn't versatility.

Sorry completely missed the point on the first read, thought you were talking about something else.Originally posted by Pepe79 View Post
