    Me too, he was awful.

He's not alone though sadly and it's unfair to pin all the blame on him, the entire defence has been equally as bad and that includes Vvd and TAA.

Having an out of form TAA next to him certainly doesn’t help him but Matip is a cut above all of our defenders this season.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Last night was as bad as anything we saw from Lovren. Probably. Certainly very close

But he was absolutely brilliant not that long ago. Shame

I was gonna mention this too. VVD is one of the best CBs in the world but he's not the messiah. He also needs good players alongside him and he just looks that much more comfortable with Matip

That said, someone made a comment about Baresi struggling with TAA next to him. I agree, you can have the best defender in the world at CB but if one of your back four is scratching his bollocks in the oppositions penalty box, you're going to have a problem whoever you are
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

trent was also scratching his bollocks in our penalty box too

Gomez has been the top uk trend on Twitter all morning and I don’t think it’s Selina. Feel a bit sorry for him tbh.

The whole right side isn't functioning. Gomez and Trent were both terrible last night. I think Elliot is part of the problem as well, for all his ability and potential, it isn't working with him on the right (at the moment). He doesn't track back as well or as quickly as Henderson would, he takes up spots where Salah would head to as well.

Basically that whole right side needs to be tweaked.

And Gomez isn't as good as Matip, so it's Joel every game for me.

he was poor and was blessed that chance wasn't taken. There is one or wo of these types of mistakes in every single game he plays.

I think we need Elliot benched just to see how Mo's game is, maybe both are taking up the same spaces, making the same runs etc but Elliot is doing Trent no favours defensively.

Gomez currently is very inconsistent, but the only time he got enough games (the league winning season) he was really good.

His meltdown in midweek was on a par with his meltdown v Villa when we lost 7-2. I am not surprised his confidence is paper-thin bearing in mind the sort of 'sell him/he's rubbish' comments that get sent his way.

For me, it is his inability to keep fit that is what worries me because it makes him unreliable. If he could overcome that, I think he'd get the run of games he needs to be one of the central defenders that replaces Matip and VVD over the next few years. But i fear that is a big if.

Has a player who has had a long history of injury issues ever been able to start being consistently fit.

It's his inability to read the flight of the ball, win duels, position himself properly that worries me.

He has a bit of pace which complimented VVD but Fonte did that as well when he was his partner and Virgil was sublime. Gomez is and always was a championship player. He's English though so we might mug someone for the odd £20m pound but that's a big if... If we continue to play him.

I actually think there's a good player in there. His attitude is clearly very good, he needs to work on his positional play and interpretation of the ball as they're his weaknesses. I think Matip has to go back in for now just to exert some belief and confidence to the back line. Gomez will come good but I think his confidence is shattered after that bumming the other night.
