Gomez is a very good player. He was shocking against Napoli, but many of our players are way off it at the minute.

He's been shocking all year. There's looking like Beckenbauer and then just casual and lazy.

He's a good player, but too many want to stroll through without breaking a sweat. Having Trent AWOL and a midfield that don't know what they are doing doesn't help but sloppyness spreads and needs to be addressed.

One think I don't hear discussed much is how our injuries affect training. Similar with the defence the other year. When you only have 3 fit midfielders, you have them in cotton wool between matches, you don't have the bodies to do shape work in the week, that will leak into cohesion with Def/Att too.

If ‘all year’ means this season, then ok.

If it means 2022, then hard disagree.

Is he really very good though? Obviously I would say that as I don't rate him but I'm not really sure many outside of the LFC fanbase would say that he's a very good player.

Personally I'm happy to have him 4th or 5th choice

I think so, yes. Many outside of the LFC fanbase insist that even the likes of Salah, Virgil and Trent aren’t that good either, so I wouldn’t pay much attention to them.

(Caveats for current form, as they’re all pretty poor at the minute unfortunately)

Gerrard had a lot of injuries early on. They were though generally described as growing injuries.

There was an article in one of Sunday papers the other week talking about him as the player that would solve the Maguire/Stones shaped problem England have.

Gomez is a quality player for sure. He's had a run of 4 games playing regularly and people are talking about him being crap.

Gomez's issues are not his quality, but being able to stay injury free for a long time. The only season he's had an injury free run, we won the league and he was a mainstay in that team.

Gomez is as good as the people around him. If they have a dip in form he absolutely drops. And why must we keep going with the excuse that he needs a run of 10 or whatever games before hes good again after every injury? Scores of players come back and they're good either instantly or after a game or two. How about we replace him with someone can do this. Oh and is also good in the air. Pretty important for a defender.

If he was our first choice CB, then we'd have to be looking for an upgrade. He's definitely good enough for 4th choice and the odd cup game or whatever.

Like the rest of the team though, we've got too many of these 4th choice players starting regularly just now. We really need our best players back fit and starting

He is also good enough to play as a defensive right back if we need to protect a lead.

Not so much as a TAA style wingback

I wouldnt say hes good enough to be right back. Hes actually not very good at all there. Henderson does better. Even Milner.

Gomez played at RB for a number of games towards the end of last seasn and did well there.

Sure he is not as good as a firing on all cylinders TAA in that slot, especially going forward, but then again TAA at present is not as good going forward as a peak TAA either.

Gomez is a decent RB going forward and has shown himself good defensively in that role.

Would have him over Milner and Henderson in a heartbeat at RB. The days of Milner at FB are hopefully done when it comes to facing pacey left wingers.

The Gomez bashing is amusing though. If he were to be sold in the morning, I would love to know who wold be suggested as his replacement for the same money. A CB with his level of pace and physical attributes that is at a higher level than him in every other aspect of the game.

The two most obvious CBs that spring to mind that play like Gomez in terms of having lots of pace, are strong, who are good defensively and who can play anywhere across the back line are Kounde and Milito. Good luck getting either of them for anywhere close to what we would get for Gomez and good luck getting them to want to be a fourth choice CB.

Gomez was awful against Napoli. Easily the worst 45 minutes I have seen by him. But was not long before that when he was putting in a good performance against Everton.

TAA has been playing below his own standards for about 10 to 12 games now (last season into this) save for the Bournemouth game.

Henderson's form has been patchy the past 6 to 12 months. As many lows as highs.

VVD is a shade below his best for a few months now.

Robertson is not marauding up and down that left flank and racking up assists for a bit.

                              The list could go on.

The problem is not Gomez imo. It is a number of players all playing below the standards they have set, be it through a loss of form, getting that bit older, maybe being a bit undercooked in terms of their pre season ( which I think may be part of it rather than them being tired) or whatever other reason.

We have a collective malaise amongst a number of our first choices along with a number of players out injured who would be stepping in for the out of form players. It reeks of the season after we won the title. Injuries and fitness playing havok with our form.

We all have players we would have liked to have seen come in the summer just gone. Be it specific players or specific positions we thought needed filling.

We did not do that and now are paying for that in the short term so is up to Klopp and his back room team to either motivate players or wield the axe so that the ship gets steadied enough to keep grinding out results until enough players are back from either injury or past their lack of form.

With any luck that move towards a run of positive results can be kickstarted tonight.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

It’s a bit stupid to criticise a player who’s played 4 games in over a year and during his first spell of continuous football in a team which is transitioning a few players and not firing on all cylinders.
