There was a reason Bowen, Ward Prowse and Paqueta looked knackered at 50 minutes, they were trying to cover too much ground. Darwin and Salah kept their backline from pushing up to support their midfield with their pace so Gomez had tons of space to operate in. Which he did neatly all credit to him.

Gomez has done well in the RB role and even in that inverted role at times since coming back into the team.

Not a fan of him in the inverted role as I think he looks better shuttling up and down the right flank, but he looks more solid in the RB/Inverted RB role over the past few games than TAA usually does. By that I mean he tends to look more switched on to potential threats and he will bust a gut to provide cover going back and does the same to provide an outlet going forward.

On current form he deserves to keep his place in the team imo and should be up to TAA to work hard in training etc to be in a position to displace Gomez should Gomez have a dip in form.

I only saw the highlights but he completely lost Bowen for that glaring miss didn't he? In fact he didn't so much lose him, but completely failed to understand the trajectory of the ball.

Can’t remember the miss but there was a problem with wind in the stadium.

There were 4? great headed chances for WH to be fair so you could level that at more than Gomez.

Gomez would be immense in the SPL. Philips however is just a bench warmer in that league

I'm a fan of Gomez but due to his injury record I see him as a pretty good third choice CB and back up RB so would love to see a 10 point list as to how Philips is better than a third choice CB for Liverpool which I guess makes it a list to show why he is a starter level player for Liverpool.

1) Nat has a 100% clean sheet record so far in his new team. Gomez does not.

2) Nat is better in the air than gomez.

3) Nat let in fewer goals at Liverpool with worse partners. Gomez has let in plenty with good partners.

4) See point 2

5) Nat doesnt hit the first defender when crossing.

6) Nats pictures have been plastered all over fans walls and made it to the front page. Nobody has Gomez on their wall.

7) Phillips last name is practical. Gomez sounds spanish but is not.

8) His hair is better.

9) Hes got strong bones

If thats not enough I have read reports of strikers in the scottish league feeling dismayed about facing 100% clean sheet Nat. They feel so demoralized that more and more strikers arent bothering to jump for crosses since Nat gets them every time. Many careers will be ended.
