The problem is that Gomez might be our best centre back partner for Virge - he is not a modern full back. Hoever is untested. Imagine we’re off to the Etihad and Matip is injured...

If Matip is injured then hopefully we have a defence of Robbo, Virgil, Gomez and Trent. With Lovren on the bench and either Milner on the pitch or on the bench. And Fabinho in midfield. Loads of solutions

Then we line up with the same defence that Klopp choose against City last year, despite having Trent and Matip available (Gomez Lovren VVD Robbo). Clyne still wouldn't be getting a look in if available.
Supporters may not like it, but Klopp likes Gomez as an option at RB and in certain games he will choose him for extra stability or extra height at the back.
Hoever is untested, but so too was Trent in 16/17 when we didn't sign anyone to replace Johnson from the year before or the injured Gomez. Like Trent, Hoever looks more than capable of making the step up.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
