Ah ok. I think we need to make sure we win the midfield battle which will be tough, the players we have at the moment for me that formation works well. When we have a fully fit Sturridge then this may well change somewhat.

I think ceding possession and hitting on the break is a valid approach against United at the minute. They lack creativity and pace. In general I think we should remember that they are a bit rubbish at the minute too.Originally posted by RichC View PostAh ok. They also don't have too many ideas other than boot it after a spell of possession. That dynamic counter attacking, viper quick style we had in 13/14 was an anomaly based on Sturridge, Suarez and Sterling though, I doubt we'll see it again.

West Ham have shown against Arsenal and us, and Swansea/Newcastle against Utd that posession is the new hot potato. Happy to give it away as long as it burns you in the long run.Originally posted by dww View PostI think ceding possession and hitting on the break is a valid approach against United at the minute. If we are going to hit on the break we need players up supporting Benteke quickly. And pre-emptively (again can't believe how good Ayew is, just gets into the right area before his teammates have even decided what they're going to do with the ball).
Ings is the pre-emptive, hard working player Benteke needs for this game. Ibe has the pace and power we could do with but he sits on his heels (literally and figuratively) and the game could just pass him by again. I'm sure he'll sort that out soon with more help from Kenny. One tit for another.

For me something like the team we used with Kuyt and Keane up top under Rafa against United should be an option - use hard working strikers to get the ball from a team that play out from deep in dangerous areas. Ings would seem a natural option.Originally posted by BigChief View PostWest Ham have shown against Arsenal and us, and Swansea/Newcastle against Utd that posession is the new hot potato. I also think that you can imagine Milner and Henderson facilitating breaks from deeper."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
