Brendan will have some selection headaches this weekend. Two weeks ago we were unlucky not to have won at Arsenal, and the general consensus was that a win at home to West Ham (they never get anything at Anfield right??
) would give us a very credible 10 points going into the international break. Oh how one game can change a whole perspective!!
For me, Brendan has had 2 weeks to work out the following 3 headaches:
1. Does his stick with Dejan Lovren in central defense?
2. What does he do in place of Coutinho?
3. Do we play 2 strikers up front?
For me, I would answer (1) No (2) Plays diamond formation (3) Yes please.
I would like to see a team of:
-----------------------------------MIGNOLET------------------------------------
CLYNE-----------SKRTEL-----------------------SAKHO----------------MORENO
-----------------------------------LUCAS-----------------------------------------
----------------HENDERSON-------------------MILNER--------------------------
----------------------------------FIRMINO----------------------------------------
------------------BENTEKE-----------------------INGS / ORIGI------------------
The only real problem being that Emre Can isn't in the starting 11 (sounds crazy that if he can't get a game for Liverpool but plays for Germany!) An alternative is that Emre Can comes on for Ings / Origi and we push Firmino up front. But to be honest, i think that would be taking away some of Firmino's effectiveness.
It will be interesting to see how Man-U line up. There is certainly a defense in their team that can be got at and although Smalling has got plaudits this season, it is easy to see him making a mistake if put under pressure. Similarly with Blind. If Rooney scores his 50th international goal tonight though, it is easy to see him going on some sort of a run. He always seems to score his goals in gluts like that....
The big interesting one for them will be if LVG selects DeGea or not. Either way, I think we need to start the game big time on the front foot and put whatever goalie they have and their defense under pressure. For me, for us to get anything from this game, then we need something to hold onto...
