They way I see it Rafa isn`t building the team around SG at all.
IMO it looks like he`s building it around a core of Momo, Xabi and Kuyt.

Also dropping Gerrard as captain would be political suicide. The media would have a frenzy! Gerrard would be nailed on to leave the following season. And if results went to pot so would Rafa.

what kind of contract agreement can he have with madrid with over 2 years left on his contract?

the only way that is possible is if the club have accepted an official offer from madrid and i can't see that kind of thing being kept quiet if it was happening.

i can easily imagine madrid approaching sfx and saying "if gerrard join us we'll give him xxx a week" and sfx saying "great, i'll work on him"

all of which is illegal of course, but will leave liverpool with a classic "i'm going i'm staying" saga.

I have never claimed to have "insider" knowledge but I have been told on good authority that Stevie is off. Apparently there is some sort of pre-contract agreement in place with Real Madrid and the rest of the details would break the rules on the Gerrard rumours as it is heavily tied in with this.

I don't claim to be an insider and I hope this is all rubbish but the guy who told me would not make this up.
