    And taking it seriously.

Cup competitions are a lottery and whoever wins will have normally had some luck along the way. Luck in the form of injuries for and against, the draw itself and many other things that make football far from predictable. If you ask ten people who will win it, you will this stage probably get ten different answers.

The premier league is rubbish. The worst utd team in 30 years is currently top ffs.

Whether it is a better shot at getting into the champs league in comparison to the premier league season is debatable. Personally I think it is, as the premier league season is a long a brutal slog & the standard is higher than teh Europa. The top teams are scatty at the moment but they will click into gear as per usual. Regardless though, the prize is the same. We should be putting squad players into the FA /League cup games & fielding our strongest teams the league and Europa league games.

Anything other than that doesn't make sense IMO.

Given that the Europa is a league, and doesn't hinge on any one result, then I have no problem with playing squad players in these matches...if we went into game 6 needing a win, then I reckon we would see a full strength side, but at the moment, squad rotation is fine.

The League Cup is an instant knockout, no second chances, so playing a stronger side in this competition, given that Rodgers "has" to win a cup this season, makes sense from that persepective, same with the FA cup albeit the tie can go to a replay.

Premier League should be highest priority, and this early stage of the Europa should be a platform for fringe players, as should the Capital Cup; unless we draw any big teams, our squad SHOULD be able to cope. If it can't, given the outlay, someone (else) should be sacked
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

Agree that the capital one should be fringe players, but when your job is on the line and you need to make sure you don't lose, then I can understand the desire to play a stronger side (I beleive we still made six changes from the side that played at the weekend, but I'm not sure?).

I would also expect a stronger side for Sion as well, 3 points at home is a must against these.

If we look at our strongest players c.a.

Mig Clyne Skrtel Sakho Moreno Henderson Milner Lucas Firmino Lallana Coutinho Sturridge Ings Benteke.

There is precious little European experience in this lot. I think we need to give some of the players at least the experience of playing in Europe and taking it seriously. Our co-efficient is also really poor and we need to start to rebuild our reputation in Europe.

With Toffees on Sunday, I'd expect changes to be rung. No Lovren, Hendo, Firmino, Benkete (presumably) Enrique got a 45 min run out last night, Gomez played as well. I'm sure that will be with Sion in mind. So I'd not be shocked if they filled both the WB positions with Can, Sakho and Toure at CB. Allen and Rossiter in deeper middle roles with three from Lallana, Ibe, Ings and Origi in front of them.

The premier league is rubbish but so are we and have been for a long long time. We haven't looked like getting a top 4 slot anytime soon and think we have a far better chance of getting lucky draws as per Middlesborough than we have getting top 4 which would require some form of consistency.

Ps although I would add brendan is **** in Europe to we can write this off as well!!

Yeah, pretty depressing really. This competition has been mocked relentlessly on here for years, "I dont give a **** if we lose" "play the kids". Now theres a CL place we suddenly have to play a full team at home to a **** team in the group stage or the manager's crazy. Thats football now I guess!

absolutely but I suspect with the derby on the weekend, we will see a weakened side. Just hope we don't take Sion for granted. Our reputation in Europe needs a serious rebuilding alright & with this cup now providing a gateway to the Champs League it has great incentive.

Liverpool defending back then was often hilarious but some amazing games, I'll take entertainment over winning stuff!
