Given that the Europa is a league, and doesn't hinge on any one result, then I have no problem with playing squad players in these matches...if we went into game 6 needing a win, then I reckon we would see a full strength side, but at the moment, squad rotation is fine.
The League Cup is an instant knockout, no second chances, so playing a stronger side in this competition, given that Rodgers "has" to win a cup this season, makes sense from that persepective, same with the FA cup albeit the tie can go to a replay.
This has to win a cup thing i just don't get, especially the domestic cups. Had this debate the other year and I put to people, would you rather win a domestic cup or qualify for the champs league? I couldn't believe the amount of people that were so desperate for us to win anything, that they couldn't see benefit of champs league football for the club. They simply just wanted LFC to win a cup.
Financially & productively, champs league football is absolutely massive for any club. Huge money is got for qualifying for the champs league & it's the top tier club competition in which the best players want to play in... which means you get a better calibre of player. That's not going into the promotion of our club in European football. Some people might argue that we couldn't attract that top tier quality when we qualified for the champs league the other year, of course because it will a blip. We need to be qualifying every year for that competition and restore our name as a European powerhouse & been seen as a consistent bet to be playing champs league football most/if not every season.
Fair enough it's early doors in the "weak" Europa league group stages, but lets not take anything for granted the way we've being playing. Sion are a decent enough side, much like Bordeaux. It's obviously difficult with the derby coming so close to this game but as you said we really need to be winning this one. We should have a big enough squad to be able to mix and match and find a strong balanced side without sacrificing too much of our quality.
I'd understand if this was a few years ago but this competition is a different story this days. I watched this right through the last two years and it was a very entertaining competition. With the end product that be more these days, it has heightened the appetite for this cup. I fully expect Can/Lallana/Gomez/Allen/Ings & Ibe to be starters vs Sion.

I guess beggars can't be choosers
I reckon he wont scrap that effing three at the back now so I hope to see something like
Kolo - Skrtel - Gomez
Ibe - Can - Allen - Moreno
Lallana
Origi - Ings
* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
does winning the Europa League guarantee group stages for the champions league or do you have to qualify as you would by finishing 4th?
Lots of hilarious discussion on this thread about these things
Liverpool aren't going to win the Europa League or finish 4th in the Premier League so long as the current manager with his chaotic ways is at this football club
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
