i like how when we're on the full press in their third, we look to foul a player when it looks like they're about to break out, to disrupt their play while we get back. it's cynical but it's damned effective.

i still feel we don't do that often enough, or stuff like standing infront of the ball when they try to take a quick free kick, it's not pretty but effective like you say.

that goal when moreno was fouled high in their half against west ham, the play should have been stopped by one of our players in the middle of the pitch.

Not sure where to put this but the latest article from the Tompkins Times:

Bump, with all the disconsolate chatter after the game maybe it's time to revisit this theme, what does Klopp want and how does he intend to achieve it?

What does Hendo/Wijnauldum partnership tell us in particular? On the face of it it simply wastes the strong suits of both players - Henderson lacks the guile to play deeper, he has an engine at his best that needs to be exploited higher up the pitch with licence to make the late "third man" run which was effective in 2013/14 and 14/15 to a lesser degree. Wij is a tidy passer/runner who likewise seems wasted in a deeper role, I'd have him working a free role on the left myself but that's currently Coutinho's starting position.

Does Klopp want to convert them, if so can he? Everyone is screaming for a positionally sound CM/DM who can tidy up and turn defence into attack. Leandro Paredes is linked today but the source is Sky Italia so can probably be dismissed.

Obviously the left back issue remains (gegen)pressing.

Give him a chance mate ffs. He's clearly being played out of position.

One dimensional style. If teams don't come out at us it completely negates our style of play. How many times last season did the "lesser" sides sit deep, let us have possession and mop up with ease when we inevitably went wide and put in dire delivery. Mirror image yesterday, why on earth any side would come out and actually play against us is beyond me. There is a blatant template on how to beat Klopp's Liverpool side. Getting tactically bested by Sean Dyche is never a good thing.

Square pegs in round holes, ineffective in possession and powder puff in midfield. It's like nothing has changed in years ffs. It's not knee jerk or over reacting, supporters can see exactly the same deficiencies as previous years. It's ridiculous that we have not addressed them at this stage. If we don't get in a LB and a proper DM in the next few weeks... It's going to be the same old story.

Flat back 2 in defence today.

                    Who needs fullbacks?
                    Oh I don't know.

I didn't come into this thread to quote this, but I lolled when I read it.

We're all being made fools of by the manager - Milner was brilliant today he only started to flag around the 85th minute, Hendo/Wijn are now working well as the deeper two with Lallana ahead - Adam is now in full 2013/14 beast mode when everything ran through him at Southampton playing behind Rodriquez and Lambert.

Sturridge might be getting a bit worried, sure he got a knock but he was lucky to even come on at all today! Klopps current blueprint really doesn't require a traditional focal point and while he might prove me wrong it feels like he'll be a bit part player at home at season in the league.

Sturridge's close control and game intelligence make him a good fit for Klopp side.

Though we are miles away from winning anything yet, as it's so early, the signs are promising.

There is no other guy I'd want in charge of us right now. It's been a while since I thought that.

We're exciting to watch again which is great. It's going to be a keegan at Newcastle like rollercoaster.

Twenty odd years experience has me far from counting any chickens, we always seem to **** ourselves in some way or another. Another concern or reason for me to not get too carried away is klopps record in finals, both here and in Germany.

But that's all for another day. It's getting good again.
