All that had happened is the clock ticked 3 seconds and now we're in a worse position to play out.
Something that Can, Milner and Lallana didn't do, they turned and carried the ball well.

Unless he recovers fully, I think we need someone like Alonso that can dictate the play and launch attacks while other mids do the donkey work.

These saves from Mignolet remined me of Dudek in 2005 CL final. Really felt we would win this. But.. **** it.

Shame that, thought we deserved to win for the majority of the game.

Mignolet did decent along side Lucas and Kolo in that makeshift CB partnership.
                *Except Michael, who died.

Agree completely. I thought he was going to be the hero of the day in the penalty shoot-out. When we went 1-0 up after one peno each, I was sure we were going to win it!!

I am a bit cheesed off but to be honest, if we lost 3-1 in normal time, then it wouldn't have flattered Man City. For all our huff and puff, we had one shot on target in the 90 mins. We just don't have a cutting edge. Sometimes our build up play looks like it is a cunt-hair away from being amazing but we never seem to get it just right.

I think Benteke should have been brought on as well to be honest. A plan B.

Also, the penalty takers were a bit strange. We had Emre Can on the 1st one - he is the guy that missed in the semi final. Some nuts on him to dink it like he did. Carragher was saying that Sturridge should have taken one - with Redknapp / Quinn saying he may have been on the last one. However, I think Milner would have been on our last one. For me, our peno takers should have been Milner, Henderson, Sturridge, Emre Can and either Lucas or Coutinho. If any of Milner, Hendo or Sturridge declined a penalty, then they should be run out of the club because they are senior pros. When you see young fellas like Can and Coutinho stepping up, then it just shows we lack leaders of men in our squad.

It is hard to see how next season will go. For me, the team will do very well to have a full pre-season with Klopp. Also, we only have about half a dozen players on international duty (I hope to fock Sturridge doesnt make the England squad) so it should be good to see how the team come out of the traps next year.

Although I would love us to go and win the europa league, I just can't see it happening (to be honest I think United will beat us over 2 legs) but do you know what, we might be better off in the long term if we were out of European football altogether next season. Give Klopps team a really good chance with a week between every league game. For me, that is why Leicester have been able to give this season a right go. It is why we almost won the league a few years ago. And if Klopp and the brain can get our players fit as ****, and add 3 or 4 good players to the squad, then we can go again.

Season is all about the Utd games now

Question is can Klopp get any more out of this expensive average bunch

OK, I feel better now, this was a kick in the teeth,. I really thought we were going to win it after the equaliser and after the first two pens.

The players aren't all awful, but they don't function together that's the problem, well Mignolet, Benteke and Moreno should be easy to improve on, but the others are just making up an unbalanced team.

Most teams could use one of Can, Hendo or Milner, but not all three, even if you add Allen to the mix you just get a shorter version of the aforementioned. We need to make the right purchases in the summer and get Sturridge going again after almost a season and a half on the sidelines.

Klopp will have learned a lot over the last few months about the league and the players, he took three tries to achieve promotion with Mainz and he needed to revamp the Dortmund side to win the title there, he'll need at least two summer windows to assemble a good team here IMO.
                      * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

                        Really?

I had a drink but from my recollection we had our goal. The Origi header which he couldn't do much more with and him nearly getting a toe onto a cross.

Aguero missed 3/4 great chances, Sterling missed 2 absolute sitters, they should have 100% had a pen given and they had a couple of other chances. Mignolet save from Toure for example.

Another day they could/would have been out of sight I thought.

Unfortunately that's pretty much how I remember it & I was stone cold sober (until later on that evening anyway!)

We were fortunate to get to penalties - that we got there & lost is a real kick in the nuts; thought we'd do it when Mig pulled off a couple of blinders...

Yup which is worrying cos we can't find any consistency in performance, theyve just got De Gea back fit and unearthed the new best striker in the world just in time to end our season.

Bodgan played in the earlier rounds didn't he?!

I guess the reason for him being on the bench was to qualify for a medal had we won. It's the only reason I can think of him being selected.
